Is it feasible to feed an infant a totally vegan diet?

Let’s say breast milk is not available. Are there any vegan formulas out there that are nutritionally complete for an infant? I’ve heard of cases of parents who have killed their babies by placing them on a strict vegan diet. Is it because there aren’t any vegan alternatives that can adequetely nourish a baby, or is it because the parents were idiots?

Are soy formulas not vegan?

Check out this IMHO thread already in progress.

Just to say it in bold letters: give babies soy formula, not soy milk.

But sure you can have a vegan diet for babies if you follow that rule. Lots of babies have dairy allergies, so they have vegan formulas. No big deal. Deaths like the one in the other thread are very rare. They were more common twenty years ago, but the FDA really cracked down, and now warnings are available to everyone but the completely stupid.
