I have the hardest time finding pretzels at any of the convenience stores near me. I prefer the thick sourdough pretzels, but I’ll settle for the pretzel rods as well. If I’m lucky, I’ll find those tiny pretzel sticks. Now, the store will have several flavors of Doritos and potato chips available.
I’m thinking this probably has something to do with the relationship between soft drink companies and snack companies. Pretzels don’t have an advertising budget or tie ins with Coke or Pepsi.
Nope, it’s not difficult. But I live in Philadelphia, so pretzels in general are pretty popular around here.
I’m in Chicago and have seen many varieties of pretzels available at pretty much any shop I’ve been to.
No problem in Milwaukee either. Any mega mart (or even places like Target) will probably have 15-25 different kinds.
OTOH, if you really mean “convenience store” as in like a 7-11/Open Pantry/Kwik-E-Mart, then all you’re likely to find is maybe a Rold Gold standard pretzel and maybe a Synders of Hanover and that’s probably it.
I noticed the same thing with cheese flavored popcorn, the kind with the yummy white dust.
The mini-marts inside the gas stations have about every snack food you could imagine, including pretzels. Of course they charge double the price of a grocery store or Walmart, but I guess that doesn’t bother some people.
No problem finding pretzels at 7-Eleven.
The 7-11 here does not have them. But I have not been to all of their stores.
I have no problem finding pretzels at our local convenience stores and they even have some flavored ones.
Saw this thread last night, and thought about it when I stopped into the gas station across the street from my apartment. Indianapolis area, for the record.
Six Rold Gold varieties, a few Mike-Sells varieties, a small Snyders of Hanover selection, they had a hot soft pretzel machine, and then stuff like pretzel Combos, Snyders pretzel sandwiches, and snack mixes containing pretzels.
