In the past hour it’s taken me between two and five minutes to get onto this site each time, and it’s timed out repeatedly. The instances of “select bookmark, go to Straight Dope Message Board page” have been the exception, not the rule.
Is it just me or has everyone been experiencing this?

Stop that! Board performance has never been better. They’ve said so. Once free posting came along, and the servers were updated, and a current iteration of the software was in place, everything would be peachy. And it IS!
