Is it possible to watch an ASX movie?

Does anyone know how I can successfully view an ASX file? I know that an ASX is somekind of link to a movie file held on-line, and it seems to be set up to prevent you copying that movie to your HD.

The problem with this is that ASX files are generally unwatchable, as the internet isn’t anywhere near fast enough. If I watch an ASX, I tend to get the first frame, followed by a pause of about a minute, then another frame (one minute into the movie) and so on, and this is on a fast connection.

Can anyone suggest a method to actually watch an ASX? There must be some way of caching the movie locally, before media player attempts to play it.

ASX files are just “shortcuts” to an actual media file - they don’t contain any video data. Open the ASX file with Notepad. There should be a URL in there containing the actual location of the file, which you can then go and download. This may not always work, if the server is set up to deny access, but it usually works for me.

Cheers mate, I’ll give that a try.
