Today the Syfy channel is running back to back Children of Men, Serenity, Predator 2 (which is no Predator, but still!), and The Fifth Element.
I couldn’t find anything saying this is Sweeps Week, and what I did find says they are usually in February and November. So why have they suddenly programmed an above average schedule? Of course for them, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-athon would be above average.
Real “sweeps” is when the local TV stations ratings are taken. Hence you get 6 o’clock “news” stories about “What really happens as strip clubs?” and such. Broadcast networks like to help their affiliates so they also run a lot of their better stuff at that time.
This is not a good time for basic cable channels. So they hold off sometimes showing their best stuff until after sweeps is over.
I think I subconsciously pulled it from my mind, but I believe that the origin of the word is from Futurama, the 4th episode, “Love’s Labours Lost in Space.” I didn’t realize it until I started rewatching the series.
Image, although that page did not do their research and thinks it’s new.
I meant that the screenshot was from a new episode as a result of the movie, and not from 1999.
I think you severely overestimate the time it takes for Syfy to churn out this schlock. Maybe they want to wait for the first one to come out on DVD in a week or two.
No no, I understood the screenshot was from this season’s Futurama, and I thought Syfy might have stolen the idea from it, and churned out a crap movie in a couple of weeks.
I gave them to 2012 because there are so many permutations they can go through in the meantime.
Sharktopus vs. Dinocroc
Croctopus vs. Dinoshark
Crocosharktopus vs. Dincroctigator
etc.
