It’s SO good!
My favorite Trek since DS9.
It’s SO good!
My favorite Trek since DS9.
DS9 had an ending like Babylon5: powerful and emotional. Once it hits you, you almost can’t go back and watch it in order (although you might try).
“I don’t remember it being this sad…”
Babylon 5 is on my TBW list!
I struggled heavily with the bad CGI (especially for the starship battles) earlier in the series, but it got better, and the characters and story more than made up for it. I watched every episode and really enjoyed it.
The great thing about it is that the show wasn’t about fighting wars (usually) or solving space mysteries or exploration or taking down some great evil menace (although all of those things did happen a bit here and there). Almost every other SciFi series or movie is about those things. No, the show was first and foremost about diplomacy, about these different alien cultures trying to find a way to coexist. And not in a boring way; it was thoughtful and dramatic and funny and exciting. I don’t think there has been another show before or after like it. There’s a reason it has such an enduring reputation.
I ranted in the May thread about a result received that made no sense.
Despite my anxiety and end-of-the-world doom and gloom worries, turns out I was right. The stupid assessment which has too much bearing on my career than it deserves was graded on the wrong answer key, as confirmed by the organization involved.
So I’m relieved to at least know that the grade they gave me was incorrect.
They haven’t, however, given me my corrected grade and now the worries of waiting are not actually resolved. I don’t trust the process.
At least it’s a one-time thing and I should know next week.
What a waste of time.
Drove about 900 miles the last two days. People don’t know how to pass. Be decisive. Don’t go 3/10 of a mph faster than the car you’re trying to pass and take 40 minutes to inch past them, put your damn foot down and freaking pass them, you moron! And then get the fuck out of the way, don’t sit in the left lane forever like you think you’re somehow going to get in front of every car on Earth. For fuck’s sake act like there are other people on the goddamn planet.
That drives me absolutely batshit insane! If you’re going to pass, PASS!
That’s great. I remember you posting that.
I’m sorry you have to do more waiting, though.
I got my stimulant meds, now with an increased dosage, and I knew after I took them that I was going to be up late as I adjusted, but I didn’t think I’d be awake until fucking 3am! And up at 8:30am wide awake this morning. Oof.
This whole med debacle has made for a whole crap week. Days of withdrawal followed now by being absolutely wired. I can’t wait to get things settled down, all my routines are off, I haven’t exercised or meditated in days, the house is a mess, etc etc.
I hope you’re not kicking yourself over it all.
Being wired doesn’t strike me as anything but a recipe for failure as far as meditation goes, so I’d maybe skip that for a bit till things re-settle.
But I bet the exercise thing can take a bit of the edge off!!
IIRC Saturday mornings are swim lesson day, which can be stressful. How’d that go today (or should I not even ask?)
The big scandal (and subsequent trial) here in MN is about a group of local Somalis who bilked the government out of some $40 million in a food fraud scheme during COVID. They claimed to be feeding children and the poor, but instead were pocketing the money and submitting false names in order to get reimbursements.
Five of the seven were found guilty yesterday. During the trial, one of them took a bag with $120K in it to the home of one of the jurors and told them that there would be more money coming if they voted to acquit. The juror reported it, was replaced and the judge sequestered them all for the duration. Prison is fine, but I really wish the government would deport them back to Somalia where they could experience real hunger and hardship themselves. Seems it would be more fitting. People can be such assholes.
Aww, you care! I made Spouse Weasel take him. I knew in advance I wouldn’t be able to sleep last night. He had a different instructor today he was not particularly warm to, but I think it’s just a sub. He has a great rapport with the regular guy.
I cleaned the whole house today (because wired) and Wee Weasel helped! Usually he runs away from the vacuum but today he helped me hold it and even ran it on his own a few times. He also helped with the dishwasher, recycling, sweeping, laundry, and cleaning his room. I’m so proud of him. He’s been asking me when we can clean the next room!
He’s a great kid. We’re going to the library next and then grocery shopping so we can practice being patient and waiting in line. It’s one of the prongs of our plan to get him ready for plane flight so we can go visit his new baby cousin. It really would be great if we could fly with him. We’d see family twice as often.
He’s grown so much developmentally I think he’s ready for the next level, which is working on patience, not interrupting, following safety rules, helping with chores, entertaining himself when adults are busy, all those little behavioral things kids need to learn. It’s gonna take extra effort and support to get him there but I believe we can get him there. It’s incredible how much he’s grown. Very fluid with his language, spontaneous speech and he’s even started playing with other kids.
Also, loathe as I am to hear the Elon Musk comparisons, we watched the video of the Space X rocket test flight and he was so into it. Even when debris covered the camera he was excited to see the altitude decreasing as it descended. The kid loves space. And I have to say I was really moved watching the video too. I get misty eyed about groups of smart people working together to expand the boundaries of our knowledge. Well worth the watch.
Shit, send him my way.
(All joking aside, I love all this for you - that’s one proud mama!)
Back to ranting…
So are all bags used for chips just suddenly shit quality? Is this a shrinkflation thing? In the past week, no less then three bags have fallen apart immediately upon opening, ripping down the center of the bag so that you can’t roll up the top without pretzels or whatever spilling out. What is this garbage material? I demand recompense.
Its a conspiracy by the container industry.
I don’t think they all are, but yeah a majority of them seem to not open properly the way they used to a couple years ago.
Let me carefully pull apart the… And it exploded. I’ve even used scissors and they’ll still start to rip. I’m just glad I have some good-sized zipper bags.
That’s a pity… It would be such a perfect outcome. If the people involved are not yet US citizens, of course, they could indeed be deported after their prison sentences.
I spent a summer doing phone support for a state unemployment system, during COVID, and a very large percentage of the people I was dealing with were victims of such identity theft. There’s a special place in hell for those scammers.
And what brought me here: screwy ads not well marked as ads on Google. I wanted to look for a certain well-advertised flowers etc. delivery service - one that I’ve used before, and in fact paid a small fee for a year’s worth of free delivery (did the math, it paid for itself on the first order).
The first search result, only flagged as an ad by the tiny word “ad” in light gray font, was a different company entirely. Seems like someone has figured out how to game the Google algorithm.
I see that kind of shit a lot, enough to be wary of it every time.
Well the new stimulant meds have made me wired as hell. It would be funny if I weren’t so tired.
Gets 5 hours of sleep
Wakes up early, cleans the whole house
Yesterday at about peak brain fog time, my husband said to me, “Okay, it’s time for us to put on our shoes and go out the door.”
I said, “What’s a shoe?”
I recognized how asinine that question was immediately, but I didn’t recognize it in time to not say it.
Based on past experience I think things will even out over the next week or so.
Jeez, I thought we were friends! { pout }
Don’t worry. You’re my favorite shoe!
