Is manhattan getting grouchy(er)?

Well, Squink if you had read the OP without me pointing to exactly what to look for, would you have noticed it as what is was the first time you saw it?

Maybe, maybe not. The fact that no one commented on it till Manny did leads me to believe he pulled a fast one on us.

I didn’t applaud the OP for it. I merely commented on how sly and clever the it was. Sly and clever doesn’t always mean good. So, I got wooshed. Ouch.

One other thing I’ve noticed is how some OPs and replies are leading questions or vague statements opening up the thread to debate. It’s happened to me more than once in GQ (I don’t always joke, you know). Polycarp’s thread here in the Pit makes that point better than I can.

I did, and I did. It’s gotten to be a fairly common and annoying game among some GQ’rs.

Hmmm… I didn’t realize it was so prevelant. Not very clever at all then just to copy someone else’s annoying style.

Of course, now I know what to look for.

Thanks for the heads up.

This does bring up an interesting policy question that perhaps needs an answer.

In the cite by NoClueBoy, he states that he missed the political snipe because he thought it was part of the sig, which he tends to ignore anyway. Okay, what if someone puts that same snipe as their sig? Does that constitute a violation of Manny’s rule?

After all, lots of people post lots of generally one-sided opinions in their sigs. That’s what sigs are for - to express some element of your personality. Well, criticizing Bush could be the element of your personality you wish to promote.

Followup question: if putting that remark as a sig is acceptable, then why is it wrong to put at the bottom of a post? Sometimes people don’t use their sig in every post, but only every once in a while. Once when the hamsters were particularly underfed, it was advocated to not post your sig more than once per page, if not once per thread. Back when I bothered to use a sig at all, I only used it when I thought the remark was particularly funny or relevant. Given that, what is the difference between putting a sig that you use every once in a while vs. putting a one time, off-the-cuff non-sequitur and unrelated to the topic comment at the bottom of your post?

Shhhhhh. I’ll blow up that bridge when we come to it.

Oh, thanks LOADS. I thought we’d agreed to keep our personal relationship off the boards?

…and if you want a decent slice, try Ben’s of SoHo, northeast corner of Sullivan and Spring.

Started flying lessons…?
