I recently installed a 3.5 inch USB hub on my computer’s front panel. I tested the thing by connecting my card reader and CF card on the hub, but apparently there was some problem with the power wire connections and the hub wasn’t working. I fixed the cables and the hub was working OK, but the CF card is now dead. It apparently died on the USB hub. Now it won’t work in the camera (can’t even format it) and won’t work on the card reader either.
Is there anything I can do to fix it? The CF is a Lexar 2GB 40x.
Depends on what you mean by won’t work. When you connect the card reader without the hub can you see a card in explorer? Can you reformat from the computer?
I cannot see the CF at all. So there’s no way I could format it from the computer. And the camera (Nikon Coolpix 5700, if that helps) says “This card cannot be used”. The format option is greyed out, so I cannot do it from the camera either.
Now that I think of it, maybe the USB hub thing was just a coincidence. The camera was freezing lately, something that had never happened with the standard 32MB card. Also, about a month ago, the camera couldn’t find any of the files on the CF and I had to re-format it.
What the heck. I’ll try to get a replacement. Thank you for your replies
