Either there’s more stereotypical bad-sense-of-the-phrase “trailer park people” than we thought there were, or the ugly truth is that among us “mainstream” people, looking and sounding just like us in casual interaction, walk a large number who have been touched by both the Dark Side and the Stupid Side. Because if she didn’t deliver the numbers, CNN would have been rid of this hate-crazed freak long ago.
I think it’s a bell graph kind of thing where for every person on the one end who hates her there’s another person at the other end of the scale who loves her, with the vast majority either ignoring her or only vaguely aware of her existence. CNN probably regards every person who hates her as just one more fan for its advertisers.
It’s amazing how few viewers it takes to make a successful cable show. So far as I’ve been able to determine, her highest rated show was after Caylee Anthony’s body was found and that was only 2.5 million viewers…out of a country of over 200 million adults! So only 1 in 100 people were watching her at highest point…a number I think we can safely identify as “outliers”. As the Jerry Springer show proved, there is always an audience for humanity at its lowest.

My mom would have loved her. Mom would have seen her behavior as “telling it like it is”. I think a lot of old ladies feel that way about her. They see her as a “tough broad” who doesn’t back down. It’s something that’s hard to understand unless you grew up in an era when women were expected to be quiet and let the menfolks talk.
I’m almost glad mom died before Nancy came on TV. We would have had problems.

Another is the Elizabeth Smart case where she pretty much convicted a man named Richard Ricci on Larry King for her abduction, and it was found later that he had absolutely nothing to do with the case. I couldn’t finish watching that Nancy Grace clip about Japanese radiation - I despised her already, but I didn’t realize (fool that I am) that she was also responsible for perpetuating junk science, another of my pet peeves. Of course she is; why wouldn’t a piece of shit like her dabble in dangerously misleading people about scientific things, too? She’s pretty much a perfect storm of despicableness.
