Just wondering here. I know Peter Jackson has a personal affinity for King Kong, and I know he was comtemplating taking it on after LOTR. Does anyone know if he is actually making the movie? If so are there and cites I can go to to find out more?
Yes, apparently he is doing it (according to E!Online) with filming to start later this year.
Here’s an interview with co-writer Phillipa Boyens in which she discusses the new King Kong movie. Apparently they’re working on the script now.
Pre-production started several months ago. Andy Serkis (the guy behind the motions and voice of Gollum) will be playing Kong’s digital motion capture actor. Casting has begun, with Naomi Watts to play opposite the giant gorilla.
Shooting will be later this year.
Here’s an old Stax Report from ign. It’s the original script JP pitched to Universal, and was scrapped in favour of a total rewrite, but it’s still interesting to read. Also has a nifty picture.
I’m cite-less, but there’s been no formal contracts for lead actors yet. JP has stated to the effect that he would very much like to use Serkis and Watts, but nothing concrete yet.
