Is purple a “hot color” now with kids?

Heinz just introduced a new purple catsup, to go with their big hit green of last year.

Ok, funny colors are cool. But they kept going on and on how purple was big now, because of Henry Potter and dinosaurs. (I know. We don’t have a clue what color dinosaurs were, but that’s their blurb.)

So, is purple any “hotter” now than last year, last decade, or last century?

I believe that the color purple was chosen at the recommendation of the Color Marketing Group, an organization whose biggest accomplishment seems to be getting people to take itself seriously.

And “Henry Potter”? A curse on you!

Harry Potter? I know it’s one of those Potters.

Barney.

I don’t know about kids, but I’ve always liked the colour purple. But not they icky pastel version, I like the deep, rich, ‘royal’ purple.

I’m a kid. Well, a minor. And I love purple. I have one wall of my room in purple, a lightish shade. I also have a purple garbage can. And I really wanted a purple reading lamp…didn’t get that one, though. Yeah, I’ve always liked it. Yes, I liked it BEFORE purple sold out and everyone else started liking it. I liked it before it was famous. Sure, now it’s in the big leagues, apparently. (Though I’ve never seen dinosaurs associated with purple. I prefer Jurassic brown and green.)

Purple ketchup is nauseating, though. Actually, IMO, all ketchup is kind of creepy.

I have also always loved purple, from the pastel versions to royal purple, and I too am a minor. In fact, I’ve considered throwing image to the wind, and actually wearing more clothes of that shade.

The beauty of purple is that it’s gender equal. Well, fairly. I’m sure some Macho guys see anything other than their school colors as “fruity”. Things like Gameboy Advance have sold their most in the color purple. In America, Nintendo plans to initially release Gamecube as purple only. It’s a fairly popular color, but there’s no definite event or such to attriubte it to.

I think I’ve been hearing for the last 10 years from various sources that purple is going to be the “next big thing!” Everyone will have purple cars, and purple kitchens, purple carpeting, purple towels, purple clothes. Frankly, I just don’t see it. With the exception of eggplants and grapes, purple is not that common a naturally occuring color, unlike say: green or tan. Any instance of purple tends to be jarring, and somehow doesn’t register in a pleasing way in large amounts. That’s my personal opinion anyway. I do like purple. Have some purple clothes and did buy a purple throw rug about 5 years ago in anticipation of the big purple craze, but I really don’t see it catching on in a big way. Truth be told, I think Prince has done more to set back purple relations in this country than any other obstacle.

I dont think it’s that popular. Orange seems to be popular color that everyone’s wearing nowadays.

However, I don’t know what color ketchup everyone’s putting on their fries.

I think it has to do with purple not being identified with either gender. Uh oh! Shawn K. has already beat me to it!

I’d probobly be considered a kid, I’m only 14. But I love dark purple, it’s my second favorite color. However, I don’t see why I’d buy purple catsup just because of it. It’s seems so wrong. God knows what chemicals they crammed into it just to get the color without messing up the flavor. And the green looks like duck feces.
