I was trying out the Kindle Fire my dad won at work, and saw the Tapatalk pop-up, thought I’d give it a try. But when I set it to open up on the SDMB’s URL, I am told that no such forum exists on Tapatalk, and to contact the board administrator.
I also could not find the board using the search in Tapatalk itself. Is Tapatalk integration broken?
Using the Silk web browser makes the text way too small, unless you zoom in, meaning you have to slide the screen around. There is no text zoom.
The app is functional, I’m actually using it to post this. I remember I had to find the SDMB when I added the app, but I’m afraid I don’t recall specifically how I managed that. I believe it was via the app’s feed tab, one of the options below (assuming the Kindle app uses a similar layout).
Sorry for the double post, but I didn’t know if I could beat the five minute window to edit the last one.
I just double checked the feed, the little house looking icon at the bottom of the screen on the forum listings and thread listings pages. I don’t believe I did find the SDMB there after all. I just did a search via the app’s search function however, I typed “straight dope” and this board was the first listing. I don’t know why the search feature didn’t pan out for you previously, but perhaps another attempt would pay off.
I just did something weird to my iPod Touch, trying to save space, and also updated it. So when I went to Tapatalk it was insisting I create an account with them and then I had to go re-add my boards.
I had no problem searching for “straight dope” to find it and add it.
I didn’t try making an account. Maybe that’s required to use certain forums. I could see this one being an 18+ forum or something.
Unfortunately, I get to the Register screen, type everything in, but the button doesn’t do anything. And it says it will put things in my feed if I register with Facebook or Twitter, so that’s out.
I’m probably not going to use it very often, as it’s not my tablet, but I still wanted to see what it was like.
Interesting that this is here now. I queried TubaDiva about my Tapatalk issue just this morning.
On my cellular phone ( Samsung Galaxy S4 Android ), when I get an email notify about a thread, I click the link. It launches Tapatalk. That’d be fine, but when I am finished reading that one thread, I can NOT back out of that onto the Main Page.
Yes, there’s some photo montage of seemingly random items with the SDMB banner and a few navigating icons below. But… NONE of those icons launch the Main Page with active links to all Forums. None. Instead, they allow me to find most recently added to threads, etc. But it is all a closed loop. Cannot get to the SDMB Main Page from which all Forums are launched.
I use Tapatalk on Android: a HTC M8. It has changed with the latest update: when you get to the SDMB page with the random pictures, on the top left you see the “T” Tapatalk logo with The Straight Dope just to its right. Tap on The Straight Dope, and you get a drop down menu, with options for Main and Side Conversations. Tap Main, and you’re in to the main forum page.
