Is the state of California going to have a period of mourning for Gov. Reagan?

Is Governor Arnold Schwarznenegger going to observe an official period of mourning for ex-Governor Reagan?

Dead Presidents generally get a 30-day period of mourning when all flags are at half-staff, throughout the country. I don’t think there’s any reason for California to do anything in addition to that.

Wow–this thread was the first in which I heard the news…

Don’t feel bad. I learned about the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster from a Straight Dope thread.

The Govenator will probably be at the Reagan Library tomorrow. The President will be “lying in repose” at the library for 30 hours straight from noon Tuesday until 6:00 pm Wednesday, before he is flown to DC for the lying in state, cortege and funeral at the National Cathedral.

Friday at sunset he will be interred on a hillside at the library.

Anyone interested in seeing the President at the library in Simi Valley can park at Moorepark College and take a shuttle to the library. The info is here-

Have they announced anything like a day when the Feds will be closed?

I work for the state of California and I know that we are getting Friday off as a day of mourning for the late ex-president.

Friday has been declared a National Day of Mourning, with most federal and state offices closed.

I work at a state university here in California. All non-essential staff and faculty will be receiving Friday off; however, Friday is the last day of our finals week and the first day of our commencement ceremonies so campus will remain open. Those who have to stay behind and work will receive a compensatory 8 hours off to be used at a later date.

Personally, this almost makes me forgive Ah-nuld for raising education fees again…nope, not quite. :smack:
