In the early 1970’s there was more of that than any other time in U.S. history, and Nixon won in a 1972 landslide.

You could blame both Nixon terms and both Reagan terms on the Vietnam war protests.
Secession is such a godawful event and precedent in an era in which we need more national consolidation if we are to have even a snowball’s chance in hell to work collaboratively to address global challenges. Especially secession over trivial and routine events such as losing an election. At some point we need to realize it’s ok to be out of power and respect the actual act of democracy instead of, much like states’ rights, federalism, the supreme court, free speech, only agreeing with it when the results we agree with.
That’s absurd. There’s been no talk of genocide, just resetting things to “how they should be”, which is that illegal aliens are back in Mexico, gays are in the closet, trans people are their birth gender, and so forth.
At some point we need to realize it’s ok to be in power and respect the actual acts of democracy instead of allowing Elon Musk to violate the fucking Constitution and gut government programs and agencies that Congress democratically approved.
Well, add executive action to the list of things that are selectively good.
It’s good when the president uses executive action to forgive avaricious student loans or protect immigrants who were brought here as babies and have never known any other home, and it’s bad when the president uses executive action to unilaterally shutter government agencies, selectively punish individuals for criticizing him, and deport people to Salvadorean gulags without a criminal charge or due process.
No, this isn’t selectively good.
Show me/us where any President has the Constitutional authority to close a department that the Congress authorized on their own?
Show me/us where any President’s lackey has the Constitutional authority to usurp Congress’ power of the purse and unilaterally cancel Congress’ spending decisions?
The danger is concentrated power. Right now the change in power is leading to results that some people don’t like and they are talking inflammatory nonsense about civil war, civil unrest, secession. In many places on the internet there is open calls to violence such as vandalism, arson, and assassinations. None of this is healthy and is in part due to people not being able to tolerate a pendulum swing and two not realizing the pendulum will even swing and that tools that are exploited for one agenda can be exploited for another. See the Supreme Court as an example.
The funny thing about selective enforcement of law and the tolerance of such can lead to situations where those that enforce said law are the violators.
Nearly half the population is non-white, eliminating them would be genocide. And immigration has nothing to do with it, it’s about race war. The same goes for torturing gays and transgender people into compliance or death. And eradicating all non right wing religion and political factions. Either calls for genocide, things that need genocide to achieve.
The goal is a world composed of two things: White Christian males, and their enslaved women. Which requires exterminating most of humanity.
If you really believe that, then what is the best course of action to prevent that? You are talking about a semi-global existential threat. And you talk about it in every thread… So, aside from dire predictions where are the solutions?
It’s hard for me to believe that people really care that much about whiteness. I know racism is still a thing, but does anyone under 50 care to the degree that they consciously prefer white to non-white? Or is it coming from the generation above me, clinging to their weird imagined version of the 1950s?
I’ve only ever lived in urban areas on the west coast or abroad, and I tend not to spend time in all-white spaces, so maybe it’s common and I’ve just never encountered it.
There isn’t one, as far as I can tell. The fascists have won, all that remains is the unfolding of the destruction of civilization.
Yes? Millions of people feel that way. Probably the majority, given how racist Trump was elected.
I know plenty of Trump supporters and not one of them, even the ones who think I agree with them, have confided in me that they want all non-white people murdered with nuclear weapons.
The only person I have ever heard express such an idea is in this thread.
Then you are listening to different people.
Can you provide the names of the people I should be listening to, then?
You can start here,
I don’t think people care so much about race per se, but rather when you’ve got uneducated white blue collar people in some meth-addled town somewhere in West Virginia (or really any benighted rural area), ol’ Cletus is liable to view any sort of equity/equality initiatives as basically taking from him and his community and giving to those city n-words who don’t deserve it (in his eyes).
So Cletus feels like policies intended to “set things right” are where it’s at, because “right” means that they help him and his, not necessarily foreigners (immigrants, illegal or not) and undeserving minorities.
As far as gay people are concerned, Cletus feels like LGBTQ people are perplexing, and somewhat gross him out. I don’t know that he’s actively hostile, just unfamiliar, and when he sees Pride parades on TV and two men kissing on TV, it makes him really uneasy. Not because he’s gay, but because he’s very limited in his outlook. In his mind, there are men and women, and they pair up men/women, not men/men or women/women. And trans people just confound him totally- are they weirdos, perverts, or just seriously confused? He doesn’t know, but he doesn’t like it one bit.
So when Trump, et al. come along and start doing things that don’t promote equity/equality and in fact set it back, Cletus applauds it, as he feels that “those people” aren’t getting undeserved stuff that he in his poverty isn’t also getting. And when they crack down on LGBTQ people, it’s perfectly ok by him; he doesn’t understand any of that, and would just as soon not be confronted with it to the point where he’d rather them be harassed and persecuted rather than deal with it.
If Cletus happens to be religious, then this all takes on a certain element of religiosity, and a certain “holy” mandate- LGBTQ stuff is sinful, so it should be cracked down on and not allowed.
But none of these things Cletus doesn’t like or understand point toward genocide. At worst, Cletus and his ilk want to return to something like the 1960s, where it’s all behind closed doors, and everyone “knows their place”. That’s what the goal here is, not genocide.
This doesn’t explain all the millionaires, billionaires and politicians who support Trump..donating billions to him. Backing his every plan.
Cletus has no power anywhere equal to that.
