The word you’re looking for is “women”.
No, it’s not.
Trans women are women. Period. There is no epidemic of “biological males” dominating women’s sports. It’s a phantom menace and playing along with it as if it were a credible problem is just another example of Democrats failing to shape the narrative and letting Republicans dictate terms to everyone.
The anti-trans brigade harasses women in sports in general, trans or otherwise. It’s just an excuse for them to indulge their hatred, nothing more. Both misogyny and transphobia.
This is just ridiculous. They are not.
I agree there’s no epidemic of males dominating women’s sports, but you miss the point. There are norms, standard, or whatever you want to call it that people of all stripe are going to defend. Call them bigots and uncultured or whatever. It won’t stop them from defending what they believe are their values.
I strongly suggest avoiding this hijack. It’s worth arguing about, but it will completely come to dominate this thread.
Moderating:
@SenorBeef gives good advice. Drop this hijack in this thread. There are plenty of threads to debate the trans issues, and this isn’t one of them.
The screaming of “Lock her/him up” at rallys and events is not a new phenomenon.
They’ve been burning politicians in effigy for a good while. Throughout history.
I’m pretty sure “Jail Nixon” was heard at a few protests.
By the opposing candidate? Not to mention calling for her death via “Second Amendment solution”.
The Right has always been in favor of violence against its opponents and the abuse of power. That’s literally the point.
I think “humans” have always been in favor of violence.
It’s clearly dyed in the threads of the fabric.
He(trump) also said Isaac Neutron and Tesla invented the light bulb. A lot of shit comes out of his tiny pie hole.
Moving the goalpost. And also wrong, many people oppose violence.
Also, I fail to see what so wonderful about the Right that it’s better to demonize all of humanity than admit how hateful they are.
I was not aware of a contest to win goals.
I don’t think the Right is so wonderful.
I think those who aren’t crazy as hell are perfectly stupid.
But, I’m also an optimistic person. I don’t think there’s anything we cannot do to make this a better country. We gotta try.
Running away, completely dispairing of any hope, ruining your health and peace of mind because of another political party’s win is not a good way to live.
I still believe there is hope. I just do.
Before we see politicians who are the future of the Democratic Party arrested, there will be arrests of politicians of the past.
I do not see anything like a civil war because of moderate elderly Democrats (or a Republican - Liz Cheney, or even Mike Waltz) being arrested. If they arrested AOC, that could lead to some civil unrest, like in Turkey. But we are more than a few years from that.
Note that the regime in Turkey effectively claims that Ekren is a Kurdish civil warrior — but he is a actually peaceful. That is a portent of what may happen here, especially if MAGA wins in 2028.
To effectively fight an actual civil war there would need to be a realignment. I would expect to be fighting alongside some former Republicans. Differences like abortion, taxation level, would need to be set aside.
If it’s simply the Democratic Party and liberals as currently constituted, there is no chance of a successful civil war or separation. Whether it’s because the right wing/Republicans standing firm, or the left wing refusing to work with disaffected right wingers.
I don’t get it. Why would Trump be any more reluctant to arrest young Democrats than old ones?
Also, I doubt that outright massacring the Democratic leadership would provoke civil unrest, between the passivity of the American public and how detached they are from the general population.
Guys, I think it’s pretty simple. The dumb, mean people of America found each other. First through dumb, mean people in mass media, like Fr. Coughlin and Rush Limbaugh on the radio, and then Fox News of course. Next, the Internet let them talk to each other en masse and organize.
Finally, the ultimate dumb, mean person, Donald Trump, galvanized the dumb, mean people of America as no one else ever had (in the US; Europe, of course, had had Mussolini, Hitler, Franco, etc.).
Dumb, mean people come from every “race” and ethnicity, as well as from every generation. Sadly, a lot of what makes them dumb and mean is genetic (certainly, the authoritarian personality, which also characterizes the dumb, mean people, seems to have a strong genetic component per scientific research).
Not that they’ve found each other, we have a real problem that isn’t going to go away. Once Trump is gone, they will not be as strong as a group. But here’s the thing: politicians now know that one path to success is to stoke the rage and resentment and play on the collective identity of dumb, mean people. Today, the GOP is 100% about doing this, 0% about doing things other than this. And now that they know the hack and how to work it, nothing is going to make them stop.
Nevertheless, while dumb, mean people like to be mean and see those not like them suffer, they do have an interest that runs counter to this: improving their own lives. And the fact is, dumb, mean people, mostly being not so rich because they are dumb, after all, have more in common with kind-hearted poor people than the smart, mean people who stoke their rage and resentment.
Therein lies the hope of the US.
As a further and final point, I don’t see bitching about the Democratic Party as having much political salience. We are the party of playing by the rules, actualy trying to govern, etc. We are not going to be the party of hacking dumb, mean people’s dumbness and meanness to get votes. Yes, we need to counter the hack by the GOP. That will be difficult to do while Trump is still around. But we can do it. The first step in doing so is recognizing the above reality. It’s not politically correct in Liberal circles to see people as dumb and mean and not really capable of change. Too bad. It’s the truth. We need to accept it and deal with it.
a not-so-far-out thought:
Given ydays mega-turd (attack plans on houties), it is not so far out that they might try to make Goldberg the scapegoat of the whole thing, and have him testify and throw the (crappy play)book at him.
one step closer to normalizing this kind of actions. They might spin it that it was Goldbergs fault (there are already efforts going on)
from Reuters webpage:
White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said:
“A lot of journalists in this city who have made big names for themselves making up lies about this president … And this one in particular, I’ve never met, don’t know, never communicated with. We’re looking into him, reviewing how the heck he got into this room.”
(bolding mine)
((how he got into this room? … he got into it, because you, IDJIT sent him the invitation link))
Yeah, let these fuckheads try to sell that shit. It’s gonna backfire bigly.
Because if you actually look at the historical record, left wing regimes are responsible for an order of magnitude more death. Yet for some reason that’s ignored even though the government that Mao established is still running the show in China and still committing genocides.
So the idea that political violence is only the tool of one faction is clearly false no matter how much it is repeated ad nauseam.
Maybe because its relevance in the current climate is entirely unknown and unknowable.
Past performance is no guarantee of future results
We’re in pretty much uncharted territory right now. History can give us a good deal of important and meaningful context, but it seems powerless to help us understand what’s coming next.
