Normally I don’t bump old threads, but this needed to be shared.
I was watching TV Land, so this commercial was probably from the mid to late 1970s. This woman had just changed a flat tire and had a stain on her shirt. Then the room she is in begins to fill with water, and she adds Fab Laundry Soap. Then she begins to shake her chest back and forth vigorously, claiming to “clean her shirt” by pretending to be in a washing machine.
Truly awful, truly dumb, truly worth sharing.

Speaking of old TV ads, how about the classic from “Wisk” detergent and its “Ring Around the Collar” theme.
Johnny Carson did a fabulous send up this once:
A happy couple enjoying a dinner party, complimenting each other on how well they look and what a wonderful party they’re having.
Up prances the standard blonde bimbo. She pulls back Johnny’s collar and annouces in a sing-song “childhood teasing” voice “Ring around the collar, ring around the collar!”
Johnny quietly take a whip cream pie off the table and smashes it into her face, all the while mimicing the blonde’s sing-song voice, saying “Pie in the face, pie in the face!”

The one I really, really hate is that Blimpie’s one where that obnoxious-as-all-hell girl goes on and on about how “Blimpie’s is the big one!” God! I HATE her! Blimpie’s bites the big one, and so do you!
I’ve got the kicker I think.
When watching my aunts old Remington Steele episodes I also got a blast of mid-80’s advertising. The dumbest?
Typical modelesque woman comes on screen, holds up tube of product and stars the spiel:
“When my hemarrhoids act up, I use…”
You want blatant capatilization off 9-11?
There’s one that is always the first one played on every break on the Fox News channel in the morning. It shows a tank driving in front of an American flag, while a slimy voiceover says “America is still strong! We salute the heart of the American economy - the small business owner!” Then it goes on to tell us how we can send away for information on this wonderful business opportunity.
It’s just flat-out evil.
The current “Got Milk?” comercial showing the homely-as-a-mud-fence slug in a grungy t-shirt and stocking feet trying to take a pyrex baking dish out of the oven with his bare hands makes me cringe. The first time it was on I was thinking "Geez, I hope this guy never reproduces when this little girl comes into the scene with her teddy bear. “Too late,” I think, while watching the idiot try to use his T-shirt and then his folded sox as oven mitts, finally ending up taking his little girl’s proffered teddy bear for the purpose, getting burned yet again. All the while, in the background is this inane “Naaah na na na naaah na na” jingle that has stuck in my head just because it’s hateful. :rolleyes:
