…which indicates whether you’ve posted in that thread?
I’ve seen this feature on other boards using the Dope’s general software bundle, which helps to remind me where I’ve posted stuff-the mark in question can be any of several things, from what I’ve seen.
Thoughts? Would this require our Reluctant Admin to twiddle something during a break in his extremely busy schedule, or can a mod do it?
If you do that suggestion, you get a blue check box on the far right side of the thread title. You also get threads you’ve posted to showing up under User CP, so you don’t have to hunt for them.
I changed that setting, logged out & back in, but I’m not seeing the blue checkmark in threads I’ve posted to. Is it automatic on all threads, or only threads I’ve somehow subscribed to?
ETA: I’ve just learned it’s only effective on threads you post to AFTER you’ve activated the feature. So it isn’t checkmarking threads I posted to earlier today, but is checkmarking this one.
As you figured out, it’s not retroactive, but what you can do is go to the top and click on ‘thread tools’ then “subscribe to this thread” (I think that’s what it says) and then click on “no email notification”/OK. That will subscribe you to an individual thread. You can go ahead and to that for your other threads. That’s what I do for threads that I want to follow but aren’t planning to post in.*
Also, from there, if you click on “User CP” you’ll get a list of all the threads you’re subscribed to that have new posts.
A lot of of started using this method when the board implemented the two minute search restriction so finding our threads by doing a vanity search wasn’t an option anymore.
*When people say “Posting to subscribe” or “subscribing” or “getting popcorn/pulling up a chair” this is what they’re doing. I think a lot of people don’t realize you can subscribe without posting.
ETA, seeing a something pop up in your USER CP that you don’t remember posting to makes it REALLY easy to spot a zombie thread.
I figured out you can subscribe without posting, but sometimes I will post just to chime in that it’s interesting. That’s another value to the “posting to subscribe” comments.
