i am running a new, hand built pc with xp. is there a simple, free, fax program that i can use to “send” faxes?
Uh, doesn’t XP have built-in faxing? Check the Control Panels, or search help.
I know it’s in XP Pro, but I’m pretty sure that it’s in Home, also.
Balthisar, coinciedentally, I’m in the same boat with Biker! It seems Windows XP has no fax utility! Or, the heck if I can find one to access! Also, an initial look at www.download.com has not returned favorable results! Since I’ve had lousy luck finding a free fax utility to download…the question is worth repeating!
So, I repeat Biker’s question: Any good free fax software out there on the web?

The second Windows component listed (Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components) in my XP Pro setup is “Fax Services.” This link (found by searching for “XP fax” from Microsoft’s homepage) doesn’t make any distinction between Professional and Home, but does note that
I don’t know whether faxing is built into Windows XP, but I did find this program, CallCenter that might serve your purpose. I was looking for a free fax program that would work with any version of Windows. According to completelyfreesoftware.com’s FAQ, stand-alone free fax programs are hard to find.
Hope it helps.

I use eFax to recieve faxes and voice mail.
I’m not sure you can send with it, but I’ve never had to.
Does this help?
Searching Google Groups http://groups.google.com/groups?q=XP+Home+fax+services&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en seems to indicate the XP Home does have fax services.
For my e-fax account, I got to send a few faxes for free just for signing up. Now I only use it to receive faxes since the receiving is free.
I use the free part of eFax for receiving only. I have a fax machine, but it’s an older, thermal paper model, so I use that to send with, and give my eFax number to receive; that way I can print them on plain paper.
