I’m just interested to know if there is a single soul in Britain who hasn’t heard the, untrue, rumour about the Beckhams?*
My mother told me it as a “true story” and she lives in a village in Somerset surrounded by people with six fingers.
Can anyone think of a similar wildfire rumour?
*I’m not going to outline the rumour, as the Beckhams have been extremely litigious in stamping on it. However coverage of the “rumour” has been extensive in the press.
Whatever the rumour is, I am really very proud of myself now, as I have been practising ingoring football for years, yet despite even listening to Radio 5 Live half the night (a station with a horrible fondness for sport), I have not heard the rumour
Happy happy joy joy!
Not British but yes I knew about it before they went public about not making it public.
Got several e-mails from friends containing the info. Some people I know post on and read popbitch which is were I believe it started.
The lawyers got very serious with popbitch over this issue.
I heard that there was a rumour on the Today programme. Needless to say they didn’t reveal what it was, and as I’m not really a reader of the papers I still have no idea what it was!
I deliberately ignore anything and everything to do with David Beckham (and, to a lesser degree, football in general), so I have absolutely no idea what this rumour is. I wasn’t even aware that there was one.
Much to my displeasure, I didn’t hear the rumour before the media block set in.
I’m actually quite shocked that they managed to cover it up so well just by the threat of legal action. You would have thought it would be an exercise in futility to silence the Internet, but I haven’t heard a thing.
I’m curious to hear what it was (not that I’d believe it) but I suggest no one posts it on here!
I’d really advise noone to post anything about it here. While the Becks lawyers probably aren’t dopers the Admin take this kind of stuff very seriously indeed.
Heheh, the truth would probably be even more unbelievable!
In years to come, long after we - and the Beckhams - have all passed on, perhaps a Cecil Junior will answer a “Was the famous 2002 Beckham rumour true?” question!
You know, a bit like he answered the J Edgar Hoover rumour in one of the current articles on the front page.
Bummer! I made a post earlier admitting that curiosity has got me in its clutches (but my cat is still OK, thank you for asking), but I think hamsters ate it. Greedy sods!
So, um, anyone feel like mainling on celyn2001@hotmail.com using “allegedly” as often as necessary. Please? My excuse is it will take my mind off tidying kitchen prior to dealing with dead washing machine - I think it is a good excuse)
