I heard “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman on the radio driving home from an interview today and I realized that I have never heard this song and had it not move me. Something about it…the music, Chapman’s voice, the subject matter, or everything combined just really does it for me. I think if I ever hear this song as an old man I’ll still feel this way about it.
Anyone have any other nominations for this category?
Yeppers. “Love, Me” by Collin Raye. Not only is the story that the song tells so incredibly moving, but for some unknown reason, it reminds me of my father’s parents, both of whom passed away within the last 7 years. The story isn’t anything like what happened to them in their lives, as far as I know, but I can see my grandfather, sitting at my grandmother’s bedside before she passed away. I can imagine him saying these words to her. And it makes me hope and pray to be that lucky some day.
It’s not the only song that moves me every time, but it’s probably at the forefront of the list.
I have a few - some are sort of cheesy, but oh well:
Feels Like Home by Bonnie Raitt. This song perfectly and succinctly describes exactly how I feel about myself, relationships, and the like. I adore it. I heard the opening strains in “Michael” (the bad Travolta movie) and hunted it down - I’ve loved it ever since.
Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. That’s the song. THE song.
(I Can’t Help) Falling in Love With You by Elvis Presley. It’s just so beautiful.
To Make You Feel My Love by either Billy Joel or Garth Brooks, I’m not picky. I love that song.
Waiting on an Angel, by Ben Harper. Every time I’ve ever felt pain, this song has comforted me.
Just Like A Woman by Bob Dylan. I’ll never forget the first time I heard it (been a Dylan fan ever since). Every time I hear it, it tocuhes me in a new way.
When I’m 78, I will still love these songs. They’re part of who I am.
“Dead Man’s Party” by Oingo Boingo. 16 years later it’s still one of my favorites. Cheers me up and makes me want to dance (I’m serious).
Also “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana. No matter how many times it gets attached to bad movies, I’ve loved it for over two decades. Put on the earphones and crank it up. It sends me to Olympus.
The Dance by Garth Brooks always has and will always make me misty-eyed.
When I See You Smile will always bring a sigh forth.
Throw Your Arms Around Me (DAAS & Anthony Sherratt versions only) will remind me of a special girl whose love wasn’t meant for me.
1917: Germany resumed unlimited sub warfare, saying that all neutral ships that are in the war zone would be attacked, The Seattle Metropolitans became the first U.S. team to win the Stanley Cup as they defeated the Montreal Canadiens, The Pulitzer Prize was founded

Alone - Bind (I will basically guarentee no one else has heard this song)
I Will Remember You - Sarah McLaughlin
Paint It Black - Rolling Stones
Without You - Dixie Chicks
I shall stop now rather than keep going for I could go nearly forever. All of these songs tell a story of my life is why the will be remembered forever.
I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing, by Aerosmith, from Armageddon. I got my first kiss during that song. Also assorted other memories. Plus I just love Steven Tyler’s voice.
Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants - I started a thread about this not too long ago. It was the first song i ever heard that wasn’t the same old, same old. Just made me go “woah!”
Pictures of You by The Cure Dig for Fire by the Pixies Rudie Can’t Fail by The Clash Straight to Hell by The Clash True Dreams of Wichita by Soul Coughing
Well, I like the entire CD (album for you old folks!) Of Roxy Music Avalon. That entire CD has been one of my favorites since… well, since I heard it as an album on my dad’s stereo!
No Doubt. The title slips my mind at the moment, but it’s the song where Gwen’s singing about how they used to be together, and now they’re not. This song was playing while I watched the first guy I ever loved kissing someone else. It still brings a tear to my eye.
