Is there a way to find out if someone has replied to one of your posts?

After making a post in a thread, I’d like a convenient method for knowing when someone has quoted me in a reply. That way I can respond in a timely matter.

What’s the best way to do this?

In the past I would search on my user name. But after the latest vBulletin upgrade, this doesn’t seem to work anymore. (I guess the search tool doesn’t search quoted text?)

Thanks

Yes, there is a way. In the reply window, under “Additional Options”, and “Thread Subscription”, choose “Instant/Daily/Weekly Notification” (according to your preference).

I think what he wants is to know if someone has directly quoted him, using the “reply” button on his specific post. This as opposed to every time someone posts in a thread he may or may not have participated in.

Thanks. I’ve been posting here for 5 years and never even noticed it before! :smack:

If I select “instant email notification,” do I get an email whenever anyone makes a post to the thread, or only when I am quoted?

Also, is there a way to set the “thread subscription setting” globally? In other words, make a default setting? Or do I have to set it every time I reply?

Thanks

Under User CP->Options, you can set the default to send email notifications for all thread you post to. This will send you an email for anyone who posts to the thread, not just people that respond to you. I think you can set it to send one email a day, or one for each thread response.

Vanity searches (searching for your username in the text) used to find instances of people quoting you, but I don’t think this works with the version we’re using. Frankly, I prefer the old way it worked, because it was an easy way to find out if someone quoted you. Another “feature” of the software that really isn’t, IMO. Just like not being able to report your own posts anymore, so if you accidentally post a new thread in the wrong forum, you have to wait for someone else to report it to the mods. I think this is a pretty stupid “feature.”

The way I find my posts is to find a thread that I’ve posted in and then click on my name. I then choose to “view all posts by DWMarch” and look through the threads. Threads with a yellow envelope have new replies since you posted and threads with a grey envelope have been inactive.

You can. Make note of your Post ID–in IE, you can hover your mouse over the Post #, and the Post ID will be displayed in the URL in the Status Bar. Then copy-and-paste the URL below into your browser’s address bar, replace the “XXXXXXXX” with that Post ID and hit ENTER:

OK, it’s not as easy as a single-click button, but hey.
