Is there a way to group contacts in gmail?

That’s it. (Well, is there and how do I.) I’d like to email all my family the same message a few times a week - and if I miss one of them clicking each little box, there will be DRAMA.

Unfortunately, not at this time.

From this page, which may not work if you aren’t signed on to Gmail.

You can kinda work around it by going into the “Sent Mail” folder, choosing an email you sent them previously, and then clicking on Reply. All the previous recipients will still be there. Then you just edit the subject and message and send it out again.

Is it possible for you to use a PC (or Mac, whatever) based front-end such as Eudora, Thunderbird, or Outlook/Express with your Gmail account? That way, you can keep and use contact groups within your local email client. Gmail now supports POP, and that’s how these applications would interface with it.
