Depnding on how you want to define it, I think there are cliques on the board, and I think it’s an unavoidable thing.
There’s a flirters clique
There’s a GD clique
There’s a GQ clique
There’s a Pit clique
There’s a #SD clique
There’s a MPSIMS clique
There’s no doubt more that I’m not thinking of
So what? All it means is that people who tend to immerse themselves in one aspect (or a few aspects) of the board and it’s related things (like #SD or the real life get togethers) tend to know other people who also immerse themselves in those things better. You can act more casual with them and you can let them slide with some stuff because you have enough past experience with them to give them the benefit of the doubt. Yes, it also means that if someone out of the blue comes in and starts acting like they can be as casual with you as someone who you’ve known for a year, that person is going to be treated more harshly for it beause you don’t know them and can’t give them the same leeway.
However, I don’t see it as something from Heathers where people have to pass some sort of a test or where we all decide who we want to let in. If you like MPSIMS then keep on posting there, get into the swing of it and soon you’ll be throwing out witty things with the best of them and getting all sorts of positive response for it. And when your chips are down, those people who know you and are used to your presence will defend you because they’ve come to appreciate what you have to offer. Blaming your own errors through inexperience on cliques is a silly way to get out of working into a relationship with the users here.
For example: Say someone posted something and said
“…board and it’s related things…” instead of
“…board and its related things…”
I know that you would let that guy slide because you all know and love him.

Biggirl, I have a confession. I read the OP. I had this great idea for a response. I read the rest of the posts. I read your post. You said basically what I was going to say. I then thought, “Hell, that never stopped anyone before!” and extrapolated on the ideas that we both shared. I was even about to type “As Biggirl said…” but then figured that if I did that, there wouldn’t be any reason for my post (since you had just said it) and I was awfully proud of my ideas.

i didn’t bother to read all of the posts on this thread, so i don’t know if this question has already been asked, but when does one stop being a newbie? i’ve been on the SD for aboot a month or so now, so what does that make me?

It takes a little longer than a month Diesel. I’ve been here since last December, and I’m still a newbie.
Well since Ultress and I registered on the same day and I have a lower post count than her I guess I’m a newbie still. Seriously, there are in jokes and things referred to by posters who have been here a while. They act as a verbal shorthand to people who have been here a while. I know it takes a while to catch on to some of the things people talk about here, just give it time. I guess your newbieness (?) ends when you are comfortable with all aspects and areas of the board and it’s auxillaries (eg. chat).
