Is there any way to install Asian Fonts without the XP disc?

My computer and copy of Windows XP are both entirely legal. I bought it from my Dad, who works at a place that legally refurbishes and sells computers.

However, he couldn’t give me the Windows disc for some reason. I want to say that they have multiple installs with their discs or something. I guess I could get it if I pressed, but I don’t see my Dad a ton.

Anyway, all I need is to install the foreign language fonts, for eastern languages. Is there anyway to do that without my XP disc?

I have Windows XP Pro. I have been able to use Windows Update and so forth, but I don’t see how to get it to install the fonts without the disc.

Any ideas?

It looks to me like you should be able to update, including downloading missing fonts, by the Internet (I have XP Pro but am not a techy. sort). Maybe someone who has some experience or expertise can explain the procedure (if I am right).

The procedure is that you go to Control Panel, and to Languages, and tell it which languages you want. Then Windows tells you to insert the installation disk. Which isn’t available.

If your installation of XP truly is legal, you might be able to use canyone else’s installation disk, just to get the fonts.

If you just want to install foreign-language fonts, there’s nothing stopping you from doing so with third-party ones. There are many free high-quality fonts available on the web which cover various scripts, and many more which you can purchase.

Do you have directory on your computer called C:\I386?

If so, perform Keeve’s procedure and when it asks for the cd, you should be able to use that as the source instead of a cd (the languages files should be c:\i386\lang).

Don’t panic if you don’t have c:\I386 (it’s not essential to running windows, but it does help).

It truly is legal.

I have an old “Home” edition of XP from a Gateway computer I had before. I guess I can try it, though it isn’t XP Pro.

I’ll let you guys know.
