Is there anyone else out there who isn't interested in the Super Bowl?

Football doesn’t do anything for me. But my husband likes to watch, so I see a lot of games by default. I expect he’ll want to watch the Super Bowl, too, so I’ll probably see some of it. If I had control of the remote, we’d be picking something on Netflix.

I do enjoy some of the commercials, but since I can see them all on line, even that isn’t a draw for me. No biggie - it’s just a few hours on one day.

Don’t care about the Superb Owl. Nor the Puppy Bowl. Nor anything associated with it.

I figure it’s a good Sunday to go and do things that are normally crowded.

Me too. With glee.

I have never had any interest in watching grown men play a children’s game.
Come to think of it, I have no interest in watching children playing games.

I’ll admit to being mildly interested in the outcome. I don’t have a vested interest in either team, but I’d like to see Seattle win. Just because they’re built on a very strong defense despite the NFL changing rules to emphasize offense. So a Seattle win would thumb their noses at the NFL, and of course take the cheating Patriots down a peg.

But I probably won’t watch the game, and I’d be happy to never hear the words “deflate” or “inflate” in a football related context again.

I used to be a much bigger NFL fan than I am now. The brain injury stuff tended to sour me on the game, along with the just how long games were getting. However, I still somewhat follow the NFL news, so I can talk about the two teams (somewhat) with fans. It’s taken me a bit longer to pull away from college football - partially because I’m emotionally invested in how my alma mater does and partially because in the South it is very easy to get caught up in it.

So I don’t have plans to watch the Super Bowl now. If I get a last min invite, then I likely will and enjoy the game & commericals.

I enjoy the commercials, but I don’t care what they’re selling.

I just took one of those online quizzes about Super Bowl commercials from last year. They showed a still from a commercial and you had to pick what it was for, or choose “I don’t remember.” I didn’t remember what any of them were for.

I like football, but the Super Bowl is rarely a good game. So I will be doing other stuff too, while it’s on in the background. A friend might be coming over to change some light fixtures and do some rewiring, so I may not see much at all.

I kind of thought we already had the Super Bowl this year, so, uh…

Never heard of Puppy Bowl.

Just never got into team sport. I played softball about a hundred years ago, so I can pretend to enjoy the rare baseball game I get dragged to. I can vaguely understand basketball. I’ve never understood how football worked, and I even tried a few times.

Awesome. Here’s hoping it will be the same for Disneyland!

The Super what?

Don’t care about it at all…I’ll be alternating between the Puppy Bowl and the Fish Bowl.

I will watch the good ads on YouTube though.

What is this football you speak of? I’m not even sure what a foot or a ball is. I’ve never even seen those two words put together like that. Is that even proper English?

Anybody remember the movie Black Sunday, in which the Super Bowl was going to be blown away by the Goodyear blimp, in a terrorist attack?

Robert Shaw played an Israeli agent who was unfamiliar with the, um, importance of the game. When intel was finally pretty sure it was the SB that would be attacked, he said “Can’t you just cancel it?” Everyone else reacted in horror, and the reply was “Cancel the Super Bowl? That would be like cancelling Christmas!”

I’ve seen one football game in my life and had to ask someone today when the super bowl is. So no. My only interest is to know what days to avoid restaurants and such that are likely to be crowded during those sorts of events.

You’re not quoting the movie. You’re quoting from the Mad magazine satire of the film, Blimp Sunday in Mad #195, Dec 1977.
After the line you last quote, the caricature of Robert Shaw replies (in a spelled-out Yiddish accent) “So? Vat Vould be so Terrible?”
I’m pretty sure none of these lines is in the actual movie, but it’s been ages since I’ve seen it.

The novel is by Thomas Harris, of Hannibal Lector fame.

Actual conversation I had today:

coworker: Are you going to any Super Bowl parties this weekend?
me: No, I’m not interested in football.
coworker (somewhat taken aback): Oh…so you’ll just be watching it at home then?

Ah… the proud non-conformists on this board never fail to warm my cockles.

I just have a problem with any movement that would prevent me from spending time with friends, eating good snacks, drinking beer, laughing at clever commercials, possibly winning a few bucks on a pure luck bet, and overall having a great time.

Then again, I could apparently get my pick of machines at the laundromat… maybe I’ll have to reconsider.

I will not be watching. I don’t think football should be banned, but I wouldn’t really mind if American football died a slow death. I do think it should be way less important.

I’d much rather watch basketball. Way more fun sport. Or tennis! Soccer! Not baseball, though, if I have to choose between the snoozefest that is baseball or football, I guess I am stuck watching football.
