Is this a word?

I had a weird dream last night.

OK, this morning. Anyway.

I dreaming I was talking to a group of friends of mine, during which I named “yolving cloves” as a term that evidently meant ‘violently puking’.

Now, I am pretty sure there is no such word as “yolving”. (Long ‘a’ sound, “YOLE` ving”). Nor have I ever heard this definition when placed next to cloves. So I must assume that I invented this term while sleeping. Yolving, I assume, is a gerund, meaning that there is probably an infinitive, which I have assumed (and therefore decided) is “to yolve” although it might also be “to yolv”. Anyway, if there is some archaic word here that already exists, please let me know. If not, I must say I’m very proud of my involuntary invention and would like to see it popularized.

Now I’m going to spend the night drinking beer and hopefully I will not be up till sunrise yolving cloves.

flup

Yow. This would seem to be a sort of twisted onomatapeia (I’ve surely misspelled that) based on the way barfing sounds inside your head. Cloves is a near-rhyme for yolve, I guess. Considering the term’s origin in the dream state, it’s plausible that “evolving” could be shoehorned into the formula. “Lava lamp’s” influence could come into play, but it’s a stretch. Lovely kettle of fish, eh?

Maybe you said “wolving calves.”

I woke up with a word in my head from a dream once, too. The more I said it over to myself, the more I was certain that it was a word, although it doesn’t appear to be. I was never quite sure of the spelling, but it was something like “barbsbirant” or “barsbirant”. I couldn’t make my mind up about whether the second ‘b’ should be there. They both sounded right.

The ‘i’ wasn’t really pronounced, the word sounded more like “barbs” (like sharp pointy things) or “bars” (your fine local drinking establishment) + “brunt” (with ‘u’ being more of a ‘schwa’ sound). It’s an adjective which means flashy and bright and gaudy, like fireworks or the midway at the State Fair or the Las Vegas Strip. Barsbirant? Barbsbirant? It’s a word from somewhere; just not here.

Yolving cloves? Yowling clones.
