Is this fake fur hat sexy?

We saw a bunch of teenage boys wearing fake fur hats like these, and my husband and I were discussing how they looked (i.e. the boys seemed to think they were looking hawt, but they just looked silly to me). I’m not sure if they actually DO look really stupid, or if they just look stupid to me because I’m far too old to be their target audience.

What do you think? Young guys in fake fur hats with attached glove things - hot or not? (Assume that the guys in the hats are just regular looking teenage boys, not models or anything.)

Oh god, please don’t tell me that’s a new fashion that’s gonna cross the Atlantic over here at some point…

Yes, it looks ridiculous.

I clicked the link. I burst out laughing. I trust the boys were just having fun looking stupid.

It’s a dorky hipster hat meant to appeal to people who want to look like dorky hipsters. I do believe it is an ironic take on hot.

Cracked featured them last spring in a terrific article: 4 Fashion Tips For Being Left Alone This Summer.

I remember because I laughed myself silly wondering how big a space would clear out around me if I could manage to wear all 4 things at once in public.

ETA: I don’t think the makers intend them to be ironic or a joke at all. I think they’re deluded and possibly bats hit crazy, but I don’t think they’re intended as a comedy item.

“Spirit hoods?” Oy vey.

One of my friends companies produces and sells similar designs. They sell along side other hats like Mario caps, Top hats, and other odd designs. They are primarily sold at Anime conventions. Sexy certainly isn’t how I’d describe them. They fall into the silly hat category that is very popular with that crowd.

Oh, Spirit Hoods.

These were actually trendy with super fashion forward people a few seasons ago, but it’s all gone to hell since then. Now, they are sold at Target and Hot Topic, so you seen teenage boys wearing them somewhat ironically.

Yeah, this is definitely one of those things you wear knowing how silly, ridiculous it makes you look. “Ironic” is a good way to describe it, but I’m not sure if many hipsters would actually wear this. Might be too mainstream for them!

They aren’t “ironically” retarded, they’re actually retarded.

This PSA was brought to you by AClockworkMelon.

I love silly hats!

Having read this before reading the article… I was in tears over how hilarious it would be to actually wear them all at once. Especially the Spirit Hat and the censorship glasses!

I think they are kind of the equivalent of golf pants - “I am so [whatever] that I can wear this.”

I want one. I would put it on Ffloyd, my five foot flamingo. It would go well with his pearls.

Most of the people wearing those around here have been about 8 years old, so I vote Not Sexy.

Aye! I’m 6’4" and over 200#… and a guy. I would think the sight of me, in a Jeankini wearing a Spirit Hat with a tiny hat on top, with those censorship-looking glasses, would send even people in Vegas looking for somewhere else to be. :stuck_out_tongue:

They would look hot on a hot person, but then everything and nothing does.

Those hats are never sexy. On guys or on girls, no matter how naturally attractive the wearer is.

:stuck_out_tongue:

There must be cheap knockoffs somewhere. Do eet!!!

I’ve only seen one guy look good in one of these (skip ahead to about 4:30).

The spirit hoods are of negative sexiness. A proper hood like the Nemean lion, perhaps, but not this stupid animal-ears-and-mittens combo.

The censor bar sunglasses are amusing for approximately five seconds. Definitely not sexy, unlike proper sunglasses.

The “jeankini” is almost sexy, but isn’t. I think it would look a lot better if the fake waistband didn’t go straight across - something more like this.

The tiny hat… I think it would be a multiplier. It could make the right outfit better, but in general I’d say it’s a step in the wrong direction.
