Is Trump confused?

Now, that’s just downright cruel.

In his mind, he did. Wait’ll next week. “It was the most beautiful - you know, I sang karaoke at Melania’s birthday party last year, everybody was like, 'you sing so great, we didn’t know you could sing too in addition to being the best president and great businessman - the greatest singer in the history of our country - it was so beautiful, they loved me in Pennsylvania, didn’t even notice the heat, they all stayed to hear me sing.”

He could do all that and more, drop into a coma for the last week of the campaign and I’m confident he’d still get 40% of the popular vote and at least 200 EV’s

No good. Everyone knows unexpected questions have a well-known liberal bias. So unfair!

I just thought of the bridge-keeper questions scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Trump might not be able to get his favorite color right.

And the motivation for far too many voters would be “Because it pisses the Democrats off.” Pure assholery is a major factor.

I’ve been on a bit of an Elton John kick recently. Saw his recent biopic and liked it a lot. Comparing himself to Elton makes me a tad irrationally angry.

Regarding the town hall that became an impromptu concert - I don’t even know what to say anymore that hasn’t already been said a million times. He’s just a lounge singer that’s playing all his hits from 30 years ago. And he doesn’t even see what’s wrong with that.

I just want to grab all the Trump supporters by the scruff of their necks and scream at them, “Just look at him! I know what’s wrong with him! What the fuck is wrong with you?!? If your grandfather did something like that you’d be talking about a retirement home! Not the fucking White House!” :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

At least the media seems to be picking this up to some degree and not sanewashing it. That’s something I guess, even if we know it won’t affect the polling at all. Nothing does.

Actually, if your grandfather did half of the shit that Trump does, the retirement home would be talking about moving him to the upper level care locked ward.

I’m actually kinda optimistic that this might hopefully be the one that “sticks around” for a bit. It’s only a couple of stupid data points, but I follow some assorted media Facebook pages (CNN, NYT, MSNBC, WaPo, etc) and the same group of usual commenters - mostly MAGA trolls - don’t know how to spin this.

And some of the pro-Harris folks who I don’t think are very active commenters (because their names aren’t familiar at all) are driving home the point that “you all would be going apeshit if this happened to Biden, or if VP Harris so much as chuckles, so fk you”.

At least scanning through the MSNBC ones tonight, I see about 80% pro-Harris comments, when it’s usually only 20% because they get drowned out by the MAGA trolls. Now we just need to see if this can “catch legs” for the next three weeks.

Yeah I am teensy but hopeful it might, it at least flip the narrative enough that more outlets cover his cognitive decline as the story it should be, if only for the last couple of weeks if the election. Even the wapo is starting to move that way with the coverage of this instance:

Does trump even realize Elton is openly gay?

If my 78 year old father with dementia shows me anything is that these cognitive blips aren’t going away between now and election day. He has two choices: continue with the frenzy of events in the final three weeks (as candidates typically do) and he’ll likely do something else absurd like the confused swaying, or dramatically cut back appearances, which will create its own media narrative around his mental decline.

This isn’t going away between now and election day, it’s only going to get worse for him and his campaign.

If anyone’s interested in noted Twitter curmedgeon Jeff Tiedrich’s take on the bizarre town hall dancing, here that is (link is to his own “blog” outside of Twitter) :

I think the polls show a tie slightly favoring Harris right now because that is the most accurate current guess. No poll that shows a tight race is in any risk to be completely off come election day. “Tight race slightly favoring Democrats” is basically the default state of elections for the time being.

His dancing reminded me of someone, but I couldn’t quite remember where. Then it came to me. Watch the guy in the striped shirt.

For those who don’t want to click on a blind link, it’s the scene from Airplane! where Ted and Elaine first meet in a bar.

In his head, it’s still 1985 and Elton is married to a woman.

Isn’t it a common symptom of Alzheimer’s that the patient can remember stuff that happened decades ago more readily than they can remember what happened earlier today?

And YMCA is just a fun, upbeat song by a bunch of manly men who like to cosplay.

(Trump would have no idea what “cosplay” means.)

Gotta love a couple of the epithets he used for Trump:

“Sundowning Grandpa Befuddlepants …”

“the [sic] narcoleptic fart factory with no impulse control and the attention span of a coked-up squirrel …”

So in the grand scheme of things not that important, but that explains Elton John, but what about YMCA was not always known as a gay song by a gay band? I mean, even in the 1970s when I understand it Trump did most of his nightclubbing. I thought that was where the “disco sucks” movement comes from, it was a reaction to the (relatively) open homosexuality in disco (as well as general otherness: being viewed as urban and non-white)

“YMCA” was played at most wedding receptions for quite a while, and it didn’t really matter how right wing the families were. Little old grandmothers and drunken uncles would be side-by-side flailing their arms while trying to pantomime the letters. If you tried to tell them about where the song came from you would have been ignored.

What, no love for “one-man leper colony Steve Bannon” ???
