I was aware that Nikki Haley has Indian ancestry. Her ethnicity has come up in several past threads about her.

The world doesn’t neatly break down into “white people” and “brown people”. Is Bashar Assad a “brown person”? The fact is that both the Levant and the Indian subcontinent are home to a wide variety of phenotypes, and some of them would be read as “white” and some of them wouldn’t. Historically, in America, “white” has meant little more than “not black”.
Remember that Mike Pence was born and raised an Irish Catholic, and his family was staunchly Democratic. Like Haley, he is a member of the 'Merican-Jesus evangelical contingent by choice, rather than being born to the breed.
Edit - Haley is actually a Methodist, apparently, and not an evangelist zealot.
