My working theory is Trump was recently briefed on the presence of Chinese military personnel operating in Panama. Instead of playing his cards close to his vest, he can’t help but blurt out loud whatever he’s thinking.
As if Trump knows what an Anschluss means. He probably would think it was either a car company or some kind of sex move.
Mine is that President Musk complained about the cost of shipping parts from China to his plants in Texas.
Meanwhile, everyone’s least favorite Shark Tank panelist is all in on the merging with Canada idea.
Remember when “the North American Union” was a conspiracy theory and Republicans were against it?
The article on Fox quotes him as saying something along the lines of “40% of Canadians have said they want to hear more about it”. Ass.
He was also a panelist on the Canadian version, *Dragon’s Den". He was an asshole there, too – always the first to insult contestants, always the inevitable holdout when it came to offering them financing. He sees the world only in terms of money, and how to get more of it, and even then only in the narrowest terms of pure short-term profit and nothing else. He’s actually much like Trump that way.
That a union with the US would mean US-levels of gun violence, school shootings, racial violence, wealth inequalities, the travesty of loss of universal health care, and all the other horrors we’ve carefully avoided in the 157 years as a culturally distinct and politically sovereign nation means nothing to Kevin O’Leary. He would probably find a way to get richer in the deal. That’s all he needs to know.
I’m sure they’re just being polite.

Yes, but it would be possible. The unpleasant fact is that if the US is determined to take over Canada the Canadians are screwed due to the imbalance of power. It would be like Russia vs. Ukraine except unlike the Russians the US military is better trained, less drunk, the equipment has actually been maintained, and the military hasn’t been scrapping tanks for booze money for the past whatever number of decades.
I sincerely hope that none of that comes to pass.
One would hope so. Of course, that would be the launch of WWIII. Really, can we just NOT DO THIS? Please?
I don’t think Trump would be putting that much thought into it, plus I’m not sure he is that good with history. However, I could see some of the people around/near him thinking along those lines, especially if their the sort of Americans who think the Canadians are just like the US except their money looks funny.
Also, the bulk of the Canadian population, industry, agriculture and so on is relatively close to the US border for climate reasons. That means that the initial rush of a war of conquest would take the majority of what Canada would need to fight back; a crippling blow even if the sides were evenly matched.

As for Canada joining the US, this isn’t a new idea. I remember a unit from my high school world geography class (very right-wing midwestern town) entitled “Can Canada make it on its own?” That was roughly 60 years ago, and Canada seems to have done quite well evading the US’s clutches.
As for invading Canada, remember all those low draft number guys who headed north in the late 60’s? I wonder whether a sizeable portion of the US troops (especially those disadvantageously pigmented) wouldn’t defect the minute they crossed the border.
What happens if fascist Trump’s imperialist territorial ambitions don’t stop at the Panama Canal, Canada and Greenland? Will he reinstitute the draft, expand the military and turn it into an army of world conquest? His greed knows no bounds. Inspired and enamored of Hitler as he is, will he begin with “little steps” of “Nazifying” our military by putting them into “Nazi-style” helmets and jackboots? As President, won’t he have that power to do so? I know that this is just speculation, but I wouldn’t put anything past him.
Trump is a fascist menace and a threat to world peace and stability, and his policies will turn the whole world against us.
That will cost money.
Don’t worry. A new start-up, Trump Uniforms, will bid for the contract.
