Canada invokes Art 5 of the NATO agreement, and the US says “uh, no, thanks”. What could the other NATO countries do, on the other side of the Atlantic? and given how Putin is behaving, wouldn’t they be more interested in trying to stay on the good side of the US, for their own self-protection? (even if that is a vain hope under President Trump).
The Commonwealth is not a military alliance; the UK is likely more concerned about Russia; Australia is depending on the US for security against China; India has shown that its approach lies in supporting Russian irredentism, so why would they worry about Canada? And so on.
Canada asks for an urgent meeting of the Security Council for this brazen breach of Art 2(4) of the UN Charter? US says “veto” and that’s that.
It would be funny if the U.S. complied with the treaty and started attacking itself. ‘Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself!’ 
There weren’t any treaties that obligated the US, NATO, or other first-world countries to come to the aid of Ukraine, either… and yet we did, because everyone rationally recognized that a (then-)powerful nation like Russia invading their neighbors just because they felt like it was a threat to everyone. The same would be true if the US invaded Canada.

Which NATO country would be able to ship arms and training to Canada, if the US blockades the St. Lawrence and Vancouver?
Also, with the different geography, “Taking over Canada” is a lot easier. To take over Ukraine, you need to take over pretty much all of it. With Canada, our population is so concentrated along the southern border that, if you take over the first hundred miles or so, you’ve basically taken the whole country. There might be some nominal resistance from small northern communities, but the US could spend the next decade taking them over one by one as training exercises.

Like in a lot of the election threads it amazes me that people still don’t understand Trump. He tries to treat government like a business. He does business by bullying those he feels are weaker. In business he threatens to sue or not pay to get concessions. That’s how he does foreign policy. He’s now in the bullying phase. A minor real or imagined concession will come from Panama and he will declare victory and move on to the next stupid thing.

Directly? The same NATO countries that are currently directly attacking Russia. But they’ll still send support to Canada, or Panama, or anyone else we attack.
As I have said, Trump is trolling. Panama, Greenland, and Canada do not need to worry.

Agree, he’ll start off with a bunch of stupid AND illegal executive orders. Courts and the media will be mean to him. The weather warms, he shifts from Mad-a-Lardo golf to his courses in Virginia and NJ. He dies/goes back to random x-cretions and the real fun begins.
The only question in my mind is how much damage he does initially.
I was thinking more of the actual “Stahlhelm” type of helmet rather than the “Fritz” helmet currently being used.

This is simple- we know Putin wants to recover the whole of the once great Russian/Soviet empire.
So, trump wants to do that same- we controlled both Greenland (briefly, during WW2) and the Canal Zone for a while- the canal zone for a pretty good period actually. And it is a little worrying that the Chinese control the ports on both sides of the canal.
Next should be Cuba, Philippines, etc.
