This has been the biggest news story in the country for about a week, sad as that is.
That’s not the Congressional code of ethics. This is.
First rule of Congressional club is…
Not so good on the credibility part, this Weiner dude.
“Creditable” and “credible” are two different words, bro. Not a single person in Congress is credible.
No, it was the Code of Ethics for U.S. Government Services. Weiner did break the rule you’re quoting, not the one Xema is talking about.
Where did Xema say (s)he was talking your link?
Xema quoted from that code of ethics in post #91. I posted a link to the full code later on.
OK. Well, that was a mistake on Xema’s part since it’s not what Weiner is going to be judged against.
Are you quoting from your own link? Here’s what I see when I click on it:
It’s not “loyalty to your own morals” it’s “loyalty to the highest moral principals”. It is of course possible for someone to say “I alone decide what’s moral, and I happen to consider avoiding public embarrassment to be the highest moral principal” - but that’s probably (perhaps I should say hopefully) not a mainstream view.
You’re grasping at straws.
New York Times just reported he’s going to [del]resign and[/del] enter a treatment center.
Treatment center? Seriously? He’s a douche, not a head case (and I say that as someone with mental health problems). He may–may–need counseling, but not institutionalization.
I don’t even see the point. Does he really think this will save his career, where if he’d just resigned without entering treatment, he’d be all washed up?
ETA: Sorry! I misread. He’s not resigning, but seeking a leave of absence. That makes sense. Still dumb, but it makes sense.
You may be right. I saw that Pelosi had called for an Ethics Committee investigation of Weiner, and I assumed that would be based on the Code of Ethics. I suppose it’s also reasonable for this investigation to consider whether the Code of Conduct was violated.
He is NOT (yet) resigning. He is “taking a leave of absence” to enter treatment

It’s what they all do to show public penance. Tiger Woods, Linsay Lohan, Weiner, etc.
You’ve said this many times - perhaps at some point you’ll undertake to supply evidence it’s true.
If Pelosi is now calling for his resignation, and Weiner is in fact considering a leave of absence, it looks as if I may not be the one who was most indulging in straw-grasping.
You are using a partial quote, and like I already explained, it gives the wrong impression of what that line means. It does not say “Officials must be loyal to the highest moral principles.” It says they must put their loyalty to the highest moral principles and their loyalty to the country above loyalty to other things. That’s not Weiner’s problem because he didn’t violate it. He did violate the part of the Congressional code that John Mace quoted.
As far as the treatment center thing goes, it could get him out of the spotlight for a couple of days or a week. That’s probably the idea.
You’re the one with the burden of proof.
Ha, he’s entering a treatment center for being a horndog and a perv.
What took so long? Weiner is checking into a rehab clinic. I don’t know if it is for sex ,drug or booze. It followed Pelosi and Wasserman-Shultz asking for him to resign.
What a weird thing to say. You think people don’t care about political theater? Our most important elections are largely comprised of political theater.
