Has anyone here ever heard of the Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire? Or has anyone ever been to them? I’m curious, so if you know of them, speak up!!!
Yes, I’ve heard of them. I’m originally from York Beach, Maine. During the summer a lot of boaters go out there, all hook their boats together and party.
If you do a search, you will find about 10 websites that have information on the Isles of Shoals.
Thank you, GolfWidow! I’ve been going to the islands for 13 years, and wanted to know if anyone else has ever heard of them.
Quite a few years back I took the Island Queen or the Sun Queen out to the Isles. The seagulls were very unwelcoming!
Unwelcoming…to say the least.
Well, hey, I’ve heard of them. Do I win a prize or something? I always thought the phrase “isles of shoals” sounded a little strange (come on, are they isles or shoals, make up your mind), but then nobody asked me.
I also think “Mount Desert” sounds peculiar, too, FWIW. Why not just “Mount Baldy”?
I see them on my frequent walks on NH beaches. I’ve never set foot on them, but I once went on a whale watch boat that cruised right past them. Nice place. Anyway, I can find out more about them (or the building thereon) if you have a specific question.
Obviously, they’re named for the shoals (schools) of fish in the area.
