Isn't anyone going to Pit the Denver Batman killer?

But if he had 1920’s style death rays, which would be both powerful and lightweight, no telling how many more people he could have killed.

Now, hypothetically, if you had a young daughter, say 3 yo, and you could stop the killer by using her body to block the automatic weapons fire while you charged the shooter and took him out,

a) how would you explain it to your wife?

and

b) would you want to have another kid right away to take her place?

Well, there will be the inevitable “Ban all guns” thing, and the “EVIL assault rifle” thing and the “But semi-auto hunting rifles (i.e Remington 750) have the same rate of fire” thing and the Evil shotgun thing (Don’t pick on the 870!) and “How did he buy a 2000 round drum magazine at Wally World?”

Obama will say "Did you buy a gun? Nobody helped you! You don’t need a gun!

Romney will say “Do I have a gun? Somebody Photoshop me shooting a .22 and book me at an NRA meeting!”

And then the multi-page Pit thread trainwreck will commence next week or even this weekend.

This isn’t a question of gun control. This isn’t a random homicide where a known family member has access to a legal gun in the heat of an argument, or a situation where a gang member uses a legal or illegal firearm in a drive-by shooting.

No, this guy obviously planned the whole thing well in advance. I’m willing to bet that regardless of any gun control measures he would have been able to pull this off anyway. Look at the latest spate of gun violence in Toronto where hand guns are illegal and yet gang members are able to get a hold of them anyway.

What are the gun controls in Norway?

This is the work of a single, obviously disturbed individual who would probably have found a way to accomplish his goals regardless of gun laws. And I can’t even believe I’ve accepted this fact in life now.

Reports are often confused in the beginning.

I agree completely.

It is common sense that you don’t fire in a crowded theater.

Then somebody will say gun control isn’t enough and will argue serial killers should be declawed.

Good point.

The news stations out here are jerking themselves silly over this.

But only their hands.

Wait you think mutant serial killers should be allowed to keep their claws? You some type of Sabretooth apologist?

Could a sabretooth still get prey with no claws, or would it slide all over like kitty on the kitchen tiles?

Isn’t it possible that a lone crazy person might have more trouble acquiring guns than an established criminal network?

I don’t buy the “they’re going to get them anyway” argument. I wouldn’t know the first thing about where to get an assault weapon if they were outlawed.

If I hear/read one more nimrod proclaim that, if only there’d been some brave person with a concealed handgun in the theater to rise up and heroically drop the shooter with one perfectly aimed shot, he’d never have succeeded in shooting all those people, I’m going to ram my CZ Lux up his backside and empty the clip.

What part of darkened theater, smoke bomb exploding, screaming panicked chaotic throngs scrambling every which way for their lives, coolly focused gunman in FULL FUCKING HEAD-TO-FOOT BALLISTIC ARMOR do you not understand?

This is just what I needed. This, and the paper towel tubes, and the Spoiler Alert. Thank you.

Maybe he found he was not one of the Elect and just snapped. :frowning:

Since I don’t like movies based on comic books I call for the banning of all movies based on comic books. Seriously, though, dude was dressed all in black; wore a gasmask, body armor, a helmet, and a shield for the back of his neck; and was carrying a couple guns. While this getup may make a guy stand out at a showing of “To Rome With Love,” apparently not at a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.” It seems to be so normal that

I heard Fred Willard is usually packing heat at the movies.

That’s why movie theaters should provide pistols for patrons. It could sit in a little pouch under the armrest…if things get dicey then the odds are with you, it’s a numbers game.

I just wish we’d stop acting like these kind of incidents are that big of a deal. They happen fairly frequently and we never do anyting about it. It’s pretty clear that American culture accepts these incidents as the cost of the status quo, so lets just stop acting surprised when they happen.
