Well you don’t suppose the guy used the CS gas, to prevent any sort of heros that might have been carrying in the theater , to um, provide suppressive fire. He seems to have thought out almost everything else, so that would tell me that he knew the cops would play by the rules, but that he could not account for the civillians in the shoot.
Not to mention ballistic armor is graded for different enviroments, it might stop the first round but your gonna know you been kissed.
So much this and I could kiss you on the mouth for saying it. I am off-the-mother-fucking-charts tired of wanna-be Jason Bournes believing that more guns going off in a darkened, smoke-filled, no-holds-barred situation would accomplish anything other than more casualties.
Because while MrTao and the kidlings went to watch the new Batman at the drive-in, I stayed home and watched the one on television…and spent the whole time worrying about them there. >.<
nm, I pit the coward who went on the shooting spree.
And +1 against the morons who say it would have gone differently, if only someone else had been armed.
A friend even saw a comment that the whole thing was planned by the liberals in order to strengthen gun laws.
Ok, but here’s the thing: Jason Bourne rarely fires a weapon.
Lots of people fire at him, but mostly he does this quick movement, twists his body, and the next thing you know the bad guy is on the ground, the door is busted open, and Bourne has just whipped himself up a Latte with his free hand…That’s how good he is!
Listen, I don’t own guns, and I have no problem with gun owners. I think people should be armed as much as they want to be because here’s the thing…
I and many other people just want to do our thing every day without drama. Wanting to do your thing every day without bloodshed is a given. We don’t want to break any major laws, and we certainly don’t ACTUALLY go around blowing people away in any manner, ever.
Ahem
NO GUN LAW YOU COULD POSSIBLY THINK UP WILL EVER, AND I MEAN EVER STOP A PSYCHOPATH FROM ACCOMPLISHING HIS WEIRD ASS GOAL.
Take your gun law rhetoric and shove it. I don’t think it would have definitely done any good to have a regular citizen armed in this situation, but we’ve seen what the definite alternative is.
Also, this kind of thing, while not nice, is something that deranged humans do to each other every day. Waaaaay worse is happening right now. I feel for those who endured the shooting because now they’re going to have a fucked up memory for the rest of their lives. I feel sorrow for those who lost someone in the melee. Wrong place, wrong time, freak thing…it happens. When you are called, you will NOT go one second later.
The scale of reaction seems way off the charts. This was not a global tragedy. I feel a little weird that the news is going all, “OMG 911!!!” Then again, I guess I feel a little weird that I’m sounding so callous about the whole thing.
The killer is a prime example of what sick American society can create with the strong will-to-power philosophy. You can feel “buhahaha he’s weak. let’s step on him”-ish mentality in deeply corrupted US citizens. He is a victim of this society. He is the victim. Not killed poeple
Yeah, things like limiting the number of rounds in a clip would obviously have no effect on the amount of carnage one nut can bring. And the fact that his guns weren’t fully automatic due to the ban on fully automatic weapons didn’t impede him, right? Yep, there’s nothing we can do to affect things like this, so we shouldn’t bother.
Besides, the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of random innocents. Didn’t Thomas Jefferson say something like that? Damned straight, he did! In fact, he said something exactly like that, right up to the word ‘of’. After that, ol’ TJ’s words apparently diverged somewhat, but not in any way that mattered, surely. Freedom isn’t free, you know. The good citizens of Aurora paid the price for our freedoms - we should celebrate them as heroes who died to preserve our precious Second Amendment rights.
Let’s pretend Holmes decided to use the smoke bomb then toss grenades at the crowd. How about Molotov cocktails? Gasoline and some flares?
The guns don’t really matter as much as how he planned this whole thing in advance and wanted (needed?) to hurt innocent people. He buys the weapons legally, he buys the combat gear legally, all in a long, thought out plan to murder. Let’s not forget the homemade bombs in his apartment. Was he hoping to kill a neighbor by blasting techno music and leaving his door ajar complete with trip wires? Was he hoping to distract the police? They would only have been about a mile away from the theater.
Point is, he might think, “I want to kill people in a crowded area. But I’m not in London, and the games are days away!! I’ll hit the local theater on that Bat-dude movie premiere. Shit, the football championship is over, and I’m stateside.” Who knows?
Whatever he is, was or was prone to do, he’s a violent fuck-wad. He wanted to murder, he did, regardless of his weapon of choice. His mindset is what scares me.
I can’t wait to hear about movie violence, gun laws, new rules about bringing anyone underage to a movie even with adult guardian, the Batman franchise is cursed, etc. It’s gonna be days of bullshit on this.
Only thing I’m glad of is he surrendered and was caught. Let him suffer for his actions during the legal process before he gets the needle.
Look, it’s all very well and good to sit here and make jokes about the event, but think about a three month old infant as one of the injured. What kind of a fuckhead brings a three month old to a midnight premiere of a Batman movie? That’s the kind of thing that spoils the movie going experience for everyone.
The harder it is for disturbed individuals - er, excuse me, “law-abiding citizens” as the fetishists call them before they actually act on their illnesses - to get weapons that allow them to commit mass murder, the less temptation there will be for them to go over the edge, along with less ability. But there is now even more blood on the cold, dead hands of the Second Amendment misreaders, who have been quite silent here and elsewhere lately.
How many people would be dead if he only had a knife? Would he even have tried anything? And when do we start to act to protect ourselves?
If some lunatic entered a theater and managed to maim 71 people in two minutes with a knife, a rock, or a pointy stick, I’d be really fucking impressed and give them a golf clap.
He had his apartment rigged with explosives. I’m thinking that if he had been unable to get guns, pointy sticks, rocks and knives would not have been his fall-back weapons of choice.
Or with four stocky guys dressed up like the Beagle Boys, using nothing but their fists. Point being, don’t make the Batman villains be any more dangerous than a character actor from the '40s, and you won’t give the crazies anything to inspire them to reach new levels of horror.
The Next 48 Hours Summarized For You in One Short Post
By John Cole July 20th, 2012
R- Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
D- Yes, but guns make it very easy to kill people in large quantities. He would not have been able to stab 71 people.
R- Stop trying to politicize this tragedy! What we need are not fewer guns, but more guns. If only someone else in that theatre had had a gun, they would have been able to stop him in his tracks.
D- Yes. Nothing could go wrong with crossfire in a dark theatre (full fo tear gas). This is absurd. There is a clear lesson here, and we need to do something about the ease with which people get firearms.
R- There’s no lesson to be learned, the guy was crazy. You can’t stop every crazy person.
D- We could try to make it harder for crazy people to walk around with (an AR-15 with a 100 round magazine, 6000 rounds,) a shotgun, a rifle, two handguns, and gas canisters.
R- I knew Obama and you liberals were coming for our guns. Second Amendment!
