Isn't Islam a wonderful religion?

The lack of self-awareness is hilariously strong with this one.

Said the pot to the kettle. Mote and beam in the eye: read the Bible for contrast. Not that I’m a Christian.

I haven’t, except for a few bits and pieces. Why would I do that? If I wanted to improve my understanding of Islam, I would look for a book called something like Understanding Islam, written by someone with academic credentials and no obvious axe to grind.

Just reading a religion’s holy texts in translation, without the context provided by informed historical and theological commentary, is worse than useless if your goal is to understand how that religion actually works in the real world.

I guess if you’re an ignorant atheist whose understanding of religion is “hurr durr, they all believe these books are literally true and there’s nothing more to it”, it could be useful for reinforcing your prejudices.

Everyone take a deep breath and pay attention to what I’m telling him. I don’t think he’s an asshole anymore. He was just angry.

In fact, I apologize for getting angry with @xtenkfarpl and telling him to fuck off straight to Hell. Even if he never comes to Jesus, good people like him don’t go to Hell.

Let’s calm down and be civilized now.

Why not both?

Other than not actually being MAGA, I’m seeing no evidence that this guy isn’t a grade-A jerk.

@xtenkfarpl I see you readying a reply to someone. I implore you, if it’s to him, let it slide and don’t antagonize him.

Wow, lecturing a Jew by quoting the Book of Matthew. This just keeps getting better.

That’s because you haven’t been reading up. Obviously.

Let the past die.

Kill it, if you have to.

Could you point me to the quote that made you decide this guy is a “good person”? I must have missed something.

He’s didn’t refer to Jews in his OP. He misplaced his anger first at all Muslims and then at all people who believe in God.

And if you’d be quiet and pay attention, you’d realize he’s on the verge of apologizing for it.

I thank you sir. I originally posted because I was horrified by what I felt was barbaric and cruel punishment for harmless behavior. And I’m sorry if I overgeneralized about fundementalism in religions, whichever they are. I love being a member of the human race, and I hope we will grow and mature.

He’s already “apologized” numerous times in this thread, but then he goes back to repeating the same old shit.

Read up. I’m not your damn teaching assistant. Start when I came back into the thread and asked him what country he was from. He got very defensive about the sins of the British Empire until he realized what my point was.

Yes, he said something incredibly stupid, then backed down, then said more stupid shit. That’s what he’s been doing all thread.

If your bar for “being a good person” is acknowledging that British imperialism was evil, I think you’re setting it way too low.

And yet everyone in this thread fully agrees with you on that point, and yet still thinks you’re an asshole. Maybe ask yourself why?

Like Jesus is on the verge of coming back?

It was cruel and barbaric treatment, and I’m angry too but it’s their law. Singapore is pretty bad too. So is the UAE. That’s why I don’t go there

Okay, buddy, now you’re the one being a jerk. I’m dipping out of this thread now that I’ve de-escalated the situation.

Stay if you want, but you’ll probably be talking to an empty room.

This is why Jews get a bum rap.

Sincerely, have a nice day. No sarcasm.

There is a buddhist parable.

Two monks were traveling together.
They came to a river where a young woman was struggling to cross.
The monks were forbidden by their order to touch a woman.

One of the monks picked her up, carried her across the river, and set her down on the far bank.
The woman thanked him and went on her way.

The monks continued walking in silence.
Hours later, the second monk said, “Brother, why did you carry that woman? It is against our rules to touch a woman.”

The first monk replied, “I put her down at the river. Why are you still carrying her?”

That is absolutely true and patently obviously to anyone who’s not been stuck in a mineshaft for the last decade or so. But the fact it’s looking fragile AF nowadays has nothing to with bearded Islamic fundamentalists enforcing sharia law on their poor unfortunate victims and everything to work Christian nationalists allying themselves with amoral secular fascists.
