There’s a short older lady, a character actress, who appears in many sit-coms from the 1970s and into the 1980s. She has a very distinct, perhaps froggy-like voice…like she just started developing that smoker’s voice. She’s usually plays in a slightly annoying role, and she’s always the straight guy or dead pan funny. I will tell you who she is NOT:
a) Nancy Walker
b) Martha Rae
c) Selma Diamond (but very close)
Most recently, I saw her playing a landlord in the Diff’rent Strokes two-part episode when Kimberly (Dana Plato) and Arnold (Gary Coleman) are kidnapped on Mr. Drummond’s (Conrad Bain) birthday. The old lady plays the kidnapper’s landlord. But, the credits are either too small and/or go by too fast these days to read anything.
I can understand mentally linking Diamond and Halop since each of them played a bailiff on Night Court and their characters had to be killed off when the actresses died.
After that, the producers smartened up and cast the relatively young Marsha Warfield.
That’s what I came here to say. You can look up any episode (most shows will indicate which season and episode you’re watching) and it will show the actors in that particular episode.
This is in no way helpful, wouldn’t be funny even if it were appropriate, and is blatantly misogynistic. This is an official Warning for this behavior.
Interesting, thank you. I never would have thought of that as a possible response, hence the 8 days before noticing a warning. I was thinking of the G-rated response “landlady green”, given that Jinx referred to “her playing a landlord”.
