ISO: General purpose mouse good for gaming

My trusty Logitech MX Revolution is starting to give up the ghost. I’ve opened and repaired the left mouse button several times and now the left button is getting flaky. I hate to see it go and will try to fix the left button but opening my mouse several times a year for repairs is getting a bit old. Especially since I lose this one tiny piece of plastic every time and spend an hour combing around for it no matter what precautions I take.

Reviews for the MX Performance say it’s a disappointment after the Revolution. So I’m looking towards getting a decently built mouse for both gaming and regular use. I’m not in need of some 130 button monstrosity, just something solid, comfortable and accurate. Although my current mouse is wireless I’m not opposed to a wired mouse and understand it has some benefits. Plus it’s just sitting on my desk anyway.

My gaming is mainly single player aside from Team Fortress. I play some single player FPS’s so accuracy is nice. I don’t play MMORPGs or need to macro a dozen spells/abilities to buttons.

Anyone using anything they’re just in love with and want to recommend?

I absolutely love my Razer DeathAdder, it fits my hand perfectly. No bells, no whistles, but it’s responsive and accurate.

Speaking of hand-fitting, I’ll note that I have fairly large hands (male, 6’1", hands sized accordingly). I know some people feel it makes a difference.

To be perfectly honest, I adore my logitec trackball mouse. The ball being under the thumb makes it highly controllable [I can;t seem to function with the other way, ball under forefinger and thumb/other finger buttons]

I can set it on the hospital table next to the laptop I game on [MMORPG - EVE Online and LOTRO currently] or if I am somewhere and crunched for space, it can sit on my thigh or the arm of a chair, when I was mucking around on the airplane to Germany a couple years ago, my laptop sat on the tray and the mouse on my leg just fine. Not needing to move anything around makes it very functional and convenient. It is also good for when my joints are playing hob and everything hurts.

And the last few I bought were quite reasonable, something on the order of $35US delivered.

Another vote for the Razer DeathAdder. Excellent mouse. My son, who games a whole lot more than I do swears by the Razer Naga. It takes some serious getting used to, but he loves the extra buttons under his thumb.

I used to have a Revolution MX, and replaced it about a year ago with the Performance MX. It is the same great size and shape, still has the far superior darkfield laser(works without a mousepad on nearly any surface), weighs about the same.

Improved:
Charger - Plugs in via micro-usb and can be used while charging now.
Uses Logitech unifying receiver - It improved my range, and got rid of occasional interference between a keyboard and my mouse.
New thumb button - It’s cleverly located and easy to use.

Made worse:
No thumb wheel - I thought it was a great feature and miss it.
No search button - was replaced with switch for mouse wheel.

All in all, if you liked the Revolution, the Performance is nearly the same thing.

So I’m an mx518 for life guy but apparently they discontinued it. They say the G400 is the same form factor but I’m dubious that they didn’t fuck it up somehow. Can other 518 users tell me if the G400 is a legit successor or not?
