He posted a Tweet a bit ago thanking Iran for the heads up, emphasizing how harmless the attack was, and expressing hope that now that Iran got this “out of their system” they’ll come back to the table.
Hebrew news is reporting signaling from other sources in the US and in Israel that if Iran is ready for a new deal with no enrichment, one can be signed.
Isn’t the worry here that Iran is simply playing for time? While there’s no definitive answer to how far back their nuclear programme has been set, surely Israel won’t be content to pause their efforts?
Any negotiations now should include an accounting of all the nuclear material and for Iran to stop their proxies from launching rockets; otherwise, I fear we will see this again in a few years.
Yours is one reasonable interpretation of Trump’s Truth Social post, but others are possible: To me, Trump’s post is inconsistent regarding the supposed cease fire timing..
While normally I do not put much credence in Iranian government statements, this, published on CNN.com, at almost exactly the same time as Trump’s post, seems plausible:
Interesting to note that Qatar was not amused when the base the US has there (the one that was attacked by Iran) also has Qatari military planes and equipment.
Trump’s Truth Social post first says that the cease fire is effective in six hours for both sides. Then it says that Israel gets extra time to bomb.
As with the creation stories in Genesis 1 and 2, there is no way to reconcile these logically, unless you are a true believer. But politically, I guess it works. Going forward, Trump can say he got Israel extra time, or didn’t, whatever works for his audience..
As for what Israel and Iran agreed to, I’m not sure they agreed to anything. But maybe they were close to agreement. Trump’s a lucky guy, and may get away with what he is pulling here.
I have five minutes to pop into a thread this week, and this is the one I’d been looking for all day.
This wasn’t a bombing to stop Iran’s “nuclear weapons program.” This was a capability demonstration to the rest of the world:
"Look what we can still do, thirty-four years later . . . after Desert Storm. I didn’t just send one bomber, I sent seven and stopped a ‘program’. Russia, China, take notice, and you better play nice with us . . .’
The pretext of Iran’s nuke program was just that . . a pretext.
Well, made by Boeing, presumably in America. Don’t know about the components. If they were imported, good thing it was done before the tariffs hit. Would have made the bomb far more expensive.
