On this evenings news, President Bush was asked about the latest round of violence in the Mid East. He was playing a round of golf with dad in Kennebuckport. He steps out of golf cart, faces the camera and says “There are a few killers that want to stop the peace process that we have started. We must not let them.” (an understatment at best.)
Am I the only one who thinks that this might be one of the problems with our world image? This statement and location was brodcast worldwide and to me said, I know there is some tough shit going down, but me and Dad are just trying to get in a game of golf.
I know the President needs some relaxation, but is there not a better way to handle such important subjects?
The media would ask him this question when he was going into the mens room if they were allowed.
It would be better if the reporters did not ask such questions while the man was relaxing. It’s not like they don’t get the opportunity to ask him whle he’s at the White House.
It’s rather silly to suggest that GW is “staging” comments on the Middle East on the golf course. Rather, it’s another example of policy (common to many administrations) to allow some degree of meaningless questioning and photo ops by reporters even during vacation or leisure periods by Presidents. There’s an enormous White House media corps wandering around with even less to do than usual. So they get tossed a treat now and again.
Yeah. That’s the problem with our world image. People resent the US because our president is golfing instead of devoting every waking moment to a 50 year old problem that will still be a problem 50 years from now.
I mean seriously, do you expect Bush to be standing in behind a podium or a desk full of unsigned bills every time he appears in the media?
