I;m glad to meet another Doper who knows what bagna cauda is! I first tried it after watching an episode of Babylon Five, and I fell in love! As Dr. Franklin said, “I can feel my arteries hardening just being in the same room with it.”
Baker, tell me about it! My aunt wanted to know how to make it without tuna, or cream. She said she remembered the way my grandma made it, which was just lots of garlic, lots of anchovies, olive oil, and butter. So, I made a batch. We ate all of it, except for about 1/4 cup. My daughter finished it off last night. She was raised right.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 75 and sunny. Nice! Also, either what’s been botherin’ me is goin’ away or all the sinus stuff I’ve been takin’ is doin’ it’s job cause I feel a lot less sniffly and sneezey this mornin’. Rain will be comin’ in sometime Sunday and into it looks like Moanday and Tuesday with temps back in the 50s for highs. Time for all this to settle down.
Great pic gigity! As for Jim and you, how y’all doin’! What? Like every single Mumper didn’t thnk I’d do that. MOOOOOOM and Sari nice pic of y’all as well.
Today I get to tour the north forty which won’t be too bad. Thus I shall leave from da cave, go do what I have to do and end up back at da cave. It will be after three this afternoon when I finish the tour and I see no need to go to the orifice especially since all I will need to do is enter stuff in folks’ electronic files which I can do just as easily from da cave as anywhere.
Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy is hongry. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Bagdna cauda? That’s ‘Magna Carta’ with a blocked nose, right? Seems an odd thing to eat, but then you are forriners
Back securitatin’ musicals tonight, for two back to back shows. I expect it shall be a little more rowdy tonight, being firday, but I’m glad I’m doing that rather than the football, which I thought I’d be working at. It’s inside in the warm, for one, and I never did like footy much.
Also need to get ready for the weekend- I’m off oop North for a zoo meeting, but I have an early start cos I also have the allergy test I’ve been waiting for for months in the morning first. I really hope they’re not running too late, 'cos I need to catch a train shortly after…
I hope they do figure out what the problem us, I’m clearly reacting to something, and I’ve not been allowed to take antihistamines for the last 4 days in preparation for the test, so I’m iiiiitchyyyy… Hopefully it’ll be worth it though.
Glad the minimumpfest went well, and that is indeed a splendid beard
Happy Firday!
It’s 33 degrees outside with a projected high of 57. I have to go shopping today, we need dog food s well as other stuff too.
It was fun last night, I hope we can do it again soon.
Not only does Jim have a cool beard, he gives nice hugs.
So
I have made my decision and am going with the house I like the best even though it’s not the best location. It’s still not a bad location but the house feels more solid and it has a nicer layout and a nicer attic and a big wide staircase that doesn’t make me feel closed in and I don’t have to duck when I come down them. It’s got real stairs to the basement instead of a trap door in the middle of the patio. When I say trap door I mean a piece of wood covering the hole where the stairs are.
I wish I could have the yard of the one in the better neighborhood but this one still has a decent backyard and because the alley runs beside the house I could move the fence over and add additional parking.
It’s $16,000 less in price, the taxes are lower and the insurance should be lower because of the age.
I’m not sure what to offer but I’ll figure that out. I can get additional money to fix up what needs fixing, or because I only have to put 3.5% down I’ll have money left over to fix things as well.
Time to set a countdown timer… In seven days, I should be in line at the airport security checkpoint.
OK, I’m up, I’m up!! We got home after midnight, and I’m just glad I wasn’t driving - I was really close to dozing off a couple of times! You’ll all be amazed to learn that despite being confined to the house for nearly 7 hours, Higgs did not pee anywhere, so yay!
I do have a clearer pic than tugig posted, but, alas, there was apparently a bit of dust on the lens or something floating in the air or something because there’s a big round white booger under sari’s nose in my pic. I’ll play with my editing software and see if I can disguise it. Stoopit dust! As an aside, when one of my sisters gets those spots in her photos, she calls them “orbs” and tries to attribute mystical significance to them. Um, no, it’s dust.
Anyway, I had a nice time last night, except for the pre-fest dinner. We went to On The Border, and I swear, they put freekin’ jalapenos in everything! I was able to pick the bits off my Dos XX battered fish tacos, at which point the tacos were pretty good. The rice, however, tasted weird, and their water had a funny aftertaste - **FCD **suggested it was authentic Mexican water… So dinner was a bust, but the after-dinner gathering was fun.
I spotted **tugig **at the table when I was at the door, and shortly thereafter, **sari **and her friend arrived. Our table was within spitting distance of Jim’s control board, but we were good and no spitting ensued. Unfortunately, Ram’s Head Tavern is a fairly small venue, and the amplification was way more than was needed, IMHO. Then again, I’m not a big fan of loud music. Even as a teen, when my friends were angling to get next to the mega-towers of speakers, I was cramming my fingers in my ears.
**Jim **came to visit with us during intermission, then when the show was over, we all chatted for a while till exhaustion overtook me and I left the festivities first. **tugig **- we saw your truck as we were leaving! Didn’t notice if there were any tickets on it, tho…
So, I’ve added 2 more Mumpers to my list - the good list - and it was really nice seeing **tugig **for a 3rd time. BBBobbio, you really shoulda come, altho it would have made getting up for work today kinda rough. And my ears have stopped ringing, so there’s that, too.
I really need to plan a fest at the house - it’s so much easier to socialize in a party/picnic situation. So, Jim, when are you available for a return trip?
It’s 36 stoopit degrees right now - I’m definitely waiting for it to warm up before I go out and play in the dirt. My exhausted sweetie is still in bed - he stayed up for a while when we came home to play with his poor, neglected puppy. And the only real errand I have is a run to the credit union - my last paycheck came in the mail yesterday (dunno why they didn’t just deposit it like the rest) and I need to take care of that. I also need stamps - I’m down to 1, and even tho I don’t use them often, I like having them on hand, just in case.
TGIF to whom it matters, happy Firday to us all!
Forgot to add - **sari **- buy the house NOW!!! No more thinking, just do it, dammit!!
Ugh, I hate short turns. Fortunately it’s Friday.
The show ended just before 11pm (Jim said it was supposed to be a 90 minute set but it was closer to 2 hrs). Afterwards I hung out for another hour bothering the man a bit while he tried to work; nice to put a person behind a screen name!
By the way - I must be clear I went to the show to meet Capt Kirk. I figured the band would just be a bonus. Instead I came away with a new appreciation of blues guitar that I never had before, they were good!
Matt Schofield (lead vocals, guitar), Jonny Henderson (keyboard, electric bass) and Jordan John (drums, vocals) put on one hell of a show for a tight crowd of about 250 at the Rams Head in Annapolis. Our seats were some of the ‘worst’ which meant they were 50’ from the stage. In any event I recommend folks give them a listen, and/or try to catch a show. I see they have a number of performances on YouTube to watch, just search Matt Schofield.
Anyway gotta get moving soon, off to the Dr’s, then back to work, then move out of my work beast back to my personal truck for the weekend to get ready for next week’s adventure.
Later!
hehehe - I know what tugig’s adventure is next week! It could make for some cool stories in future MMPs.
I like being in the know.
My sweetie is up and functional - in fact, he’s run to the hardware store already. I’m still in my robe being a bum, and loving it!! It’s still to doggone cold to go play in the dirt.
Oh look, somebody ALREADY uploaded a song from last night!
Edit to add to **MOM **- How is his knee doing today?
Another edit: No tickets. It was a loading zone and nobody cares after 5pm, especially if it’s a commercial looking truck.
Alas, he did not have to worry about it.
Minimumperfest has been declared a success then? Nice pic too, and evidence that more people have met mooooom and lived to tell the tale.
I am at irk, slightly less irked than before since I now have access to pretty much everything I need to do my job properly. One of the lecturers came to talk to me yesterday about something I’d done for him that wasn’t quite right, we had a discussion about how to fix it and what was the best thing to do, he accepted my solution quite happily and then said I had obviously missed my vocation working in disaster management.
Today I am sorting out exam stuff and going round in circles trying to accommodate what everyone needs. Fortunately it’s afternoon and I have only got a couple more hours to go.
Sari, get that house bought!
**tugig **- he wasn’t limping, so it wasn’t a terminal twist. It’s just one of those stupid things that keeps happening. And since he won’t (can’t?) just sit and do nothing for a while till it goes back to normal, it’s just something he’ll deal with. At least it’s not his back!

Um, swampy???
Not that I’m suggesting anything…

Hey! I resemble that remark… I was one of our brave test pilots a few years ago looking to see if telecommuting was any good or just a passing fad. Of course I said it was good.
I can say that the dogs like it.
**gotti **- it’s envy on my part - I’ve never had a job that would work with telecommuting. Now, it’d be perfect for me, but I don’t think anyone would pay me for Doping from home.
Had a blast at Musical Mumper Meetup
Thanks to Mooom, Sari and 2gig for coming out.
Gotta irk and drive to PA
Cheers
Jim
A really high caliber one? I had to ask.
Surprise at work yesterday: I’m being shifted from answering phones to the sales floor.
Plus side: I’ll be busier (things can get pretty dull between calls) and I enjoy the customer service side of things.
Minus side: my new schedule starts Saturday, and I think you can guess that in a thrift store, they tend to schedule all sales staff for Saturday who can possibly do it. Thus, no Saturday off this week. We’re closed on Sundays, and my next day off after that is Wednesday. DH minorly grumbled about there not being any weekday we both have off (he’s in class Monday-Thursday).
Another minor plus: I can now drive to work two days out of five instead of one, thus easing commute woes a bit (I am developing a profound loathing for what claims to be a transit system here).
I also now have the info for that Office 2010 class I’ll be taking on Friday evenings starting at the end of April and going through May. Hey, they’re paying for it :). (The store I work in does job training stuff, including putting associates into classes to upgrade work skills so we can do better when we leave the nest :). )
