It isn't easy being green in the MMP

I do have some Irish ancestry and also go to a church named St. Patrick’s, so I guess it is my bounden duty to celebrate.

I don’t want to be at irk that’s for sure. It’s quiet which is good cause I need to mess around in physical files and would rather not be disturbed. Except at ten I do have a conference call which will last anywhere from half an hour to two hours. ICK!

**sari **- my maternal grandparents lived off Broadway and Gough St, so I used to go to the old Broadway Market when it was a real market. I also played on the recreation pier back when they still had a playground up there! I even remember when the streetcars were still running.

My paternal grandparents had a house that backed on Boston St, back when Boston St was lined with fish markets and other industrial sites. Now it’s full of super- expensive homes. I’d love to see inside of the old house - my folks sold it in the late 60s for around $5K - I know it was listed in the $300s not too long ago.

This same goofy sis lives in Canton, just a few blocks from Patterson Park, another place I used to play as a kid. Wow, talk about things I haven’t thought about in ages…

Just heard from my mom. Grandma died this morning after holding on through the weekend. All of her children managed to get out there to say goodbye, and she went peacefully at 89 years old. Mom seems to be okay with it, she said she might be more upset “once the novelty wears off,” but I think she’ll be okay. Regrettably, none of us have been really close with Mom’s parents for the last decade or more, and her father wouldn’t know who we were anyway, thanks to the dementia.

I was 33 years old when I lost my first grandparent, and at 38 I’ve still got two alive and kicking, if not entirely compos mentis. I think it’s more fruitful to be thankful for their long lives and peaceful passings.

Good morning, all.

I’m 100% Irish, near as I can figure (my grandmother on my mom’s side of the family was orphaned as a little girl, so her knowledge of her pedigree was limited to the one or two immediate relatives that she did know.

On my father’s side, however, I’m 2nd generation American. Both of my dad’s parents came over from The Old Country in 1926 (same year, different crossings, both settled in the same neighborhood on the North Side of Pittsburgh where they met and married). They both even spoke Gaelic at home, although that faded over the years. I learned a few words and phrases when I was a kid, but have forgotten every syllable that they taught me.

Hope you’re all doing well. It was almost 70 her on Saturday, got down to 35 last night, and it’s not much warmer this morning.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

I’ve got some Irish in me, but I won’t be celebrating ,since I’m working till midnight tonight. right now I’m caffeineing and watching Gordie bury hus food in the carpet.

FCM, it’s a balmy 33 here right now, with no snow in sight.:stuck_out_tongue:

Not Irish, not celebrating today. Obviously Mother Nature is not Irish either since she decided to turn the grass (which we’re just now seeing for the first time since January) from green back to white for today. <rolleyes>

Even the curse words?

I finally got my taxes done. For the first time ever I owe money to the state of North Carolina in Its Infinite Wisdom. I do not feel I have gotten my money’s worth from the state, but they tend to send people with big heavy clubs when you don’t do what they say, so pay them I must.

Feh, I say. Feh.

okay this is it

h\Heard back from the broker and I thought the realtor was wrong and she was.
She said I wouldn’t be able to get the HomePath because FHA would never approve it but it’s a different program and there is no appraisal or anything.

Now I have to sit and weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each and probably go with my gut anyway. I am going to call out to the police station again and confirm each neighborhood is cool. I won’t have much time to debate with the way houses are selling.
oh I hate making decision!

I’m not Irish either, although I seem to have a good mix of just about everything else; German, Rumanian, French, Spanish and Norwegian. The Norwegian and a smattering of German come from my Dad’s side; the bulk of the German and the rest come from my Mother’s side.

I don’t have a lick of green on either and won’t be celebrating. In fact, I’m wearing tan and chocolate colors. It’s a work day and when I get home, I have a ton of stuff of stuff to do there too.

Doo, doo, doo, lookin’ out my back door!!

Reaches into pocket & pulls out Executive Decision Maker device, holds it up to monitor to internetically (is too a word) send it to Sari.

Sari, look in your pocketbook/wallet for the “quarter”
(Of course, you still need to decide how many flips.)

In honour of St. Patrick’s day, here’s one of my two favourite limericks:

The tooter who tooted the flute
Tried to teach two young tooters to toot.
Said the two to the tutor,
‘‘Is it harder to toot, or
To tutor two tooters to toot?’’

I’d share the other favourite limerick, but it’s kinda dirty…

{{{Drae}}} even if you weren’t close to your grandmother, it’s still tough. I only had one livin’ grandparent as a kid and she died just before I turned 13.

Intartoobz are bein’ wonky here at irk. Might end up usin’ that as an excuse to irk from home this afternoon if’n it keeps up.

(((((Drae)))))

My mother said a long time ago that she thought we had some Irish relatives but I’m not sure if they were genuine relatives or not. On my dad’s side of the family there were three sisters who (he believed) were actually close family friends but were always referred to as “Aunt”. That is about as close to any potential Irish ancestry as I get. Besides, the rest of the family are as English as it gets, and as we came from the south-eastern corner of England we are pretty much mongrels given the number of times we’ve been invaded, settled and whatnot.

Doggio, having some Irish in you doesn’t mean putting Guinness on your cornflakes…

Damn.

Drae I’m very sorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope you’re doing well.

My sister-in-law says they got about as much snow as in your picture, Mom. We got hit with the same system, but it was only cold dreary drizzle, starting at about 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon (and still going on).

Thanks, everybody. I haven’t quite figured out if I’m upset or not. I have a terrible headache and I’d like to go home and take a nap, but that’s only indicative of it being Monday. I’m not like “meh, Grandma died,” but I don’t feel all that much of an impact because she hasn’t been a part of my life at all for the last ten years, and I only saw her occasionally another fifteen years before that. Mostly, I’m just trying to keep an eye on my mother, in case she needs me.

I wish it were that easy Spidey, just to flip a coin.

I’m waiting for the mortgage guy to call me back with some calculations in what the house payments will be. The realtor gave me some wrong info which makes a difference. I called the police out there for crime information. I think I am over analyzing and making it harder than it has to be. You should have seem me agonizing when I bought my new truck. It took me months just to decide I really needed a new one. Then whether new or used. Then which one and how much to put down and how much to finance.
HomePath has no PMI and that is a big factor in this, but there is a limit on how much renovation money you can get and I’m not sure the maximum will be enough for all the repairs.
I’m sorry I’m boring all y’all with this, just thinking out loud. I’ve got my spread sheets out with all the info… damn I hate making decisions. Wait until I have to buy appliances and furniture lol.
I might be better off not doing renovations, picking out that stuff will surely send me over the edge.
