In the usual PA winter, between Nov 1 and April 1 I can get about 5k miles on my Sportster.
This winter I managed about 50 miles.
The weather better break real soon.

**kopek **- isn’t roller coaster season coming up soon??
sari, got any friends with a backhoe? Remember, they only find the bodies in shallow graves.
A little lime goes a long ways. Remember to not use your rewards card, and buy it in another town, far away.
Whatever day it was, you were having lunch with another Doper, a time zone away.
Happy Apes day!
(((((Sari))))) - any house, ok? Whichever one the realtor says you can afford. Then send me the address and I’ll ship over a special box of pointy stick-wielding Sri Lankan spiders with instructions to keep the crazy away.
Went out for lunch with a couple of friends, one of whom took over (permanently) a temp job I was doing last year. She’s very unhappy and is applying for other positions already, even thoug her probationary period in that post is not up yet. I told her I’d also applied for a job in the same School she’s in, she’s already been to see the person who has the vacancy to put in a good word for me. Yay for networking!
At this point** FCM** I may not tell *anybody * in my family where I am going
Sometimes I think I may change my name at the same time, or at least put the house in corporate name or something just so they can’t find me.
I know I should grab whatever just to get out but I really don’t want to go from the frying pan into the fire.
I like the way you think
Is anyone happy it’s Tuesday? I know I’m not.
We had yet more power problems last night. An almost imperceptible flicker was followed half an hour later with one of those brief outages that go like: <goes dark>Aw nuts, a pow…<back on> then <dark again>dammit!<back on>…Eventually, the line gave up and we were in the dark for a few hours.
The first two hours was awful with the big dog who panics at UPS beeps. She has no problem with the microwave, range, phones, the burglar alarm’s arm/disarm beeps, but that beep-beep-beep-beep of a UPS sends her into a panic. I wish we had injectable tranquilizers for her. The Xanax pills take too long to engage.
First order of business tonight is surgery. The UPS for the phone system needs a beeperectomy.
Did I mention the lack of sleep? No power means no CPAP which means no bright and chipper. <thud>
“Universal Imports”.
Woke up this morning with a chest infection, couldn’t go into work. The universe is punishing me for not celebrating St Patrick’s Day in the traditional manner.
Blurf!!!
Yes. We already got three season passes and our “no coaster” winter get-together was earlier this month. I’m planning on 12 different parks and a total of 25 or more days. Her Ladyship should do even better; I’m sending her to the California convention herself.
Getting roaring drunk and having unprotected sex with a midget?
Hi Mumpers
Quick check in from NYC
Musical Mumper Meetup x3 this week, awesome
Jim
Midget?
Seems to think leprechauns are midgets.
I thought CPAPs used batteries?
Still sinusy. Still too cold to go walkin’. I don’t want to do yoga with a sinusy head or I may end up in a dizzy, crumpled heap.
Unless you’re talking about golf cart sized wet cells and larger, smaller batteries wouldn’t push that much air for more than an hour or two.

Most can be used with batteries in one way or another. Some newer units have been intelligently designed to run on 12 volts, so it’s possible to get an inexpensive ($30 or so) adapter cable and plug into a cigarette lighter socket if you’re car camping. You can also get cables with spring clamps to clip onto a car or boat battery.
If you’re Diamond Jim, you can buy a battery specifically for your CPAP - you have my sympathy if you have a ResMed S9. That battery costs $700. For that price, it is at least lightweight as batteries go (2 pounds) and can be taken on an airplane. A more generic option for my machine is “only” $330, but weighs 15 pounds.
As an amusing side note - a CPAP-using coworker who lives near me discovered the power failure when they woke up after not being able to breathe too well.
Oh, the limiting factor on battery life is heated hoses and humidifiers. Reviews of that $330 pack say it would run my machine without the humidfier for 22 hours.
Well, that was boring. I was making squares and watching “My Dinner with Andre” - apparently, I missed the point. Or maybe there isn’t a point. I was reading about it and I guess I’m too plebeian to understand, or something. I caught myself falling asleep a couple of times. Oh well, at least I now know what it is, should the need to know ever arise.
Supper will be some leftover turkey rescued from the freezer mixed with cheesy pasta and peas-n-carrots. Quick and easy - as dinner should be! I also made some sugar-free cherry gelatin. Yum. Or meh. Either way.
Today has been unbelievably boring, and I’m so excited to go home soon. Grandma’s memorial will be on Monday, and I’ve been asked to do a reading because my mother is fairly confident I won’t break down in the middle of it like some other family members. So the half-Jewish-by-birth, pagan-by-choice granddaughter is going to stand up in a big ol’ Catholic church and probably read something that has a lot to do with Jeebus, because the sum total of my recollections of Grandma dragging me to church with her is pretty much all Jeebus and little fun, except for that short part where everybody else got up for snacktime and I got to read quietly to myself.
Howdy from da cave! I am so glad irk is over today. I spent the whole day in the south forty ridin’ on US Highway 19. For real. Every place I went to today is on that highway. I even et N.O.L. at a MickeyD’s on the same highway. OYKW is irkin’ late tonight to update a bunch of records poor thing. Thus, I do not get to see him. So I made me a grilled ham 'n cheese sammich for dindin.
Sari you need a place of your own soonest.
gigity ouch!
Everybody else, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, wedgies, and how you doin’s as needed. I read but not sure how much I actually comprehended.
