In high school, I injured my right knee in a dirt bike accident. It was bad enough that I should’ve gone to the doctor, but being a teenager, I figured it could heal on its own. Well it did, except it’s been easily injurable since. I’ve ran on it, played tennis, and stuff like that, but it gets injured doing easy stuff. This time I was playing laser tag, and they don’t allow you to run. It felt fine that night, but was a little sore the next day, and got worse and worse until my knee was swollen with fluid and wouldn’t bend much. So I’ve been limping around the last week feeling like crap. Luckily my boss put me on work that doesn’t involve much walking.
I went to the doctor yesterday. He suspects it’s a discoid meniscus. I have my doubts since that’s congenital and I think it started with the dirt bike wreck 12 years ago, but we’ll find out for sure when I get the MRI. That is when they can be bothered to schedule it. They said they’d call me. I kind of feel like they’re not too worried about the fact that it’s painful to walk. I’m thinking about calling them tomorrow.
Another thing that bothers me is pain medication. When I had my four wisdom teeth removed, the dentist gave me 7.5 mg hydrocodone. I took four pills in the course of an hour and it did nothing for me. Luckily, it was a mild ache, perhaps due to the Celebrex he also prescribed me. That and the fact that I get nothing from codeine either leads me to believe I have a high natural tolerance opioids. I have a feeling this surgery is going to leave me with more than a mild ache and Celebrex probably won’t get the job done. I’m not sure how to tell him about my tolerance without sounding like an opioid addict though. Of course I will have an obvious reason for needing them, so I can’t really be suspected of just looking for meds. I still have a bad feeling I’m going to have to endure some pain though.
Anyway, I’m ready to get this over with. They need to hurry up and get the show on the road. They’re cutting hours at work so this would be the best time to sit at home for a couple of weeks. Being incapacitated is annoying.
