There I go again, zoning out of the MMP. Really must learn to keep up better. Here’s a pun.
Yesterday morning I took the Physics GRE for a second time. This one went much, much better than the first time, although I won’t know my score for 6 weeks. ETS is a bunch of lazy sacks of poo. Poo, I say!
Highly, highly seconded. I love egg nog. In fact, I was just thinking I could appeal to the collective wisdom of the Cool Kids and ask for suggestions about types of alcohol to add to egg nog. I’ve only ever had it plain before. Ideas?
Oh, and I am definitely making some of that Mexican hot chocolate soon.
Lawdy. That sounds really … rich, and a the same time strangely compelling. I think I’m going to have to make a point of trying to make some when I’m having one of my “diet schmiet” days. Or the next time I plan on taking a walk over to Manitoba…
Just back from breakfast and a boating adventure. We went down to look at 2 slips where the manager wanted us to move. While we were there talking with a guy who kept his boat on that dock, some folks came over and asked if we worked for the marina. They were coming down from Annapolis yesterday enroute to Deltaville, VA, when theire engine died. They managed to get to a dock at the U of MD facility next to our marina, and they came over to see if they could get towed over so they could get their engine fixed.
One thing led to another, and we ended up towing them to a marina where they could get their engine fixed on Monday. **FCD ** used to do this kind of towing all the time before I met him, and he hadn’t forgotten in all these years. We tied them along the port side of our boat with many fenders between us. We putted up the creek and deposited them where directed, and they were greatly impressed. I was, too, but them I always am when **FCD ** is at the helm. He’s a pretty amazing boat handler.
After we untied from them, we went further up the creek and saw our old boat in its slip. We snarkily speculated that someone other than the new owner backed it into the slip, as he seemed to be pretty clueless when he took possession. Then we went back to our new slip, backed in, tied up, and came home.
I’ve got the washer and the dishwasher both running. I need to go wax the bases of all the stuff I have to glaze, but that won’t take long. And I need to hack up that pork loin. Mostly, it’ll be a lazy afternoon. Yay!
How… strange… see, I ordered a convection oven/rotisserie (close enough) last week. I thought it was being sent by the post office. Turns out it came by FedEx and was sitting in my garage when we arose from our nap. That is not a royal we, ACBG and I took a nap cause we were full and had had a couple bloody mary’s apiece. I left the garage door up. It was not there when I got home. FedEx delivers on Sunday? Who knew! Anyways I have my new toy. It has a rack for drying fruit even. Now I must decide what to convect/rotiss first. Decisions, decisions, decisions!
Lazy Sunday so far. I did 2 loads of laundry(that’s a lot of shirts if you don’t wash for two weeks), had a nap and some lunch(burgers and onion rings). I have some pork chops marinating in OJ and ginger.
Scallops Gregorio is much better fresh than leftover, but it was still pretty good leftover.
Third load in the washer, second in the dryer, all pots waxed prior to glazing (these are the ones I’ve made at home) and the critters have been fed. FCD is crashed on the love seat, and I turned off the Law-and-Order-athon in favor of Mythbusters.
Overall, it’s been a productive and relaxing weekend. Plus we’re up against a 4 day week followed by a 3 day weekend. Yay! We’ll be spending Veteran’s Day weekend building a closet in the guest room. I figure we can get the closet framed and sheetrocked in one day, and another day for mudding. Then I can take my time painting.
**FCD ** has decided he no longer likes the pumpkin color in our living room and hallway. So it looks like I’ll be painting in there also. Then, maybe, we can finally put up the crown molding and finish the living room. The only problem is the carpet. Last time I painted, the floors were bare. This time, I’ll have to put down plastic and be really careful, since the carpet is off-white. Unless we paint the walls off-white, in which case, it won’t matter. No, we won’t go off-white…
Ummm… did FCD choose the pumpkin color for the living room? If so, then, I say, hand him a paint brush and say “have at it, buckaroo!” Then again I hate hatehate to paint.
Ok, so I did the thing with my new toy whereupon I let it run for half an hour like the book said to do to get out any gunk or whatever might be in there. Dang thing’s noisy when it starts up, then it quiets down. I have yet to decide just how I will officially christen it. Something shall be cooked in it at some point this week, I think. It’s a week til our accreditation and I have a ton of stuff to do at work, so cooking shall not be exactly on my list of things to do this week.
As I was finishing up the degunking, ACBG called (he went home to do laundry and such) and said to meet him at a local fine dining establishment called The Three Squares Diner. How fine is it, you ask? Well, it used to be a Huddle House. It is, needless to say, a casual dining experience, meaning, I threw a shirt on over my sweatpants, put on the sneaks, grabbed the wallet and keys and went. There is just no way to feel under dressed there. We dined upon one of their finer and pricier entrees, hamburger steak. It comes with a lettuce and mater salad with your choice of dressing that comes in a big foil pack, and your choice of fries, hash browns or baked potato. I chose Diet Coke as my beverage, ACBG chose iced tea as his. The waitress came over and said, “Hey sweeties! What y’all gone have tonight?” Gotta love a place like that! The bill came to almost twelve whole Amurkin dollars! What can I say… you pay for quality!
He picked the color, but there’s a rule in FairyChatEstates - I do all the painting. It’s not his strong suit and I learned years ago to keep paint brushes and rollers out of his hands.
I like to paint - it’s one of those chores where it’s easy to see immediate results - that’s gratifying. Plus I can get him to do stuff I don’t like to do when I’m painting because he feels all guilty. So it works out all around!
Told you already, FCM, but it bears repeating: pottery looks really cool.
I’ll take some of that cream cheese frosting. I need the energy.
Also, I’ll take some of that convected/rotissed whatever, swampy. I’ve never seen Mexican hot chocolate that involved eggs, though. I just make it with whatever Mexican chocolate is available (Ibarra or Abuelita) and milk.
Took me two reads to get the pun. Hee hee. Good one.
Went to brunch after mass and then came home and napped. For about 3 hours. Now I’ve swept leaves of the walk and sidewalk (too late to really rake, but I wanted to at least get leaves out of people’s way) and pulled plants out of the containers in front.
Need to go throw some more laundry in the washer. And think about what I’m wearing tomorrow, and lunch, and work. If I’m lucky, I’ll not only have a four-day week, but also have an extended weekend.
Well, I missed getting churchified today. I woke up at 0815; the service starts at 0830, and Betsytown is 45 minutes away if I drive like hell. Obviously, I blew it off this week.
I built a makeshift closet in the big bedroom. Nothing fancy, because it will be ripped out this spring when I pay to have the bedroom drywalled.
Did some cleanup stuff, split a bunch of wood the old fashioned way (sledge and wedges), and worked in a nap.
The highlight of the day was making Maddy blow chow. VWife was trying to drug both dogs, when Loki spit out his lump of cream cheese. Maddy snarfed it immediately, and has 6 25 mg Benadryls in her. I took her into the bathroom and force fed her hydrogen peroxide until she spewed in the bathtub. Yuck. I found 4 of them, but I really didn’t want to go looking for the other 2. Since the pills were still intact, I wasn’t too worried.
