I love toasted pumpkin seeds, but the process of separating them from pumpkin guts is disgusting. Slimey. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.
We’ve had a fair crop of trick-or-treaters so far - I’m about to go and take over door duty so Mr. SCL can go to bed, since he has to work in the morning.
Magic is settling in nicely - he really does talk a lot, but once we are in bed he shuts up and burrows behind my knees. Except when I move my feet - that cat is a foot-pouncing fool! And since I have restless leg syndrome it made getting to sleep last night very interesting.
My librarian friend left today to go visit her daughter and granddaughter. While she was waiting for her flight at the Atlanta airport she got a call from her daughter - the baby has had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic and is in the emergency room. I know all you MMPers are full of good vibes, so please send some of them out to a 1 year old baby girl in North Carolina.
Time to go sugar-shock the kidlets - back later.
I’m feeling a bit better now, thanks to McCello’s dance and WoofWaiter’s cartoon - that and some yucky pink stuff. (I always shudder after taking a dose of PB)
btw - here are the albums - the wedding and reception and Sunday Family Brunch. Enjoy.
I listening to a hockey game on NHL.com, and I heard a Tim Horton’s commercial!
gt thanks! Beer is helping with the throat.
SCL, Lucretia is a talker, too. Hopefully Magic won’t try to murder you, and eat her suite mates. I’ll say a prayer for the kid.
Glad yo feel a bit better, rosie. Nice photos, too.
Final count: 37 trick-or-treaters. Woo hoo.
Cool pics, rosie. Looks like it really was a fun family occasion.
Good thoughts and prayers going out to that little baby girl, SCL.
I’m yawning already. Guess I might crawl into bed.

Y’know, I bet having a Doper for a boss would rock. Not that my boss isn’t cool or anything, but … well, he’s not Dope material.
Hey Rosie, I hope you’re feeling much, much better. Sending good thoughts to the little baby too in Nawth Caroliner too.
Today was a very long day and I’m exhausted. I was up at 2:45 am, and we were out the door by 3:45 am. We picked up the MIL and were at the hospital by 4:30 am. We only just got home about 30 minutes ago and shoved some KFC down our throats for chop-chop.
At any rate, the surgery went well. They did find some curious white spots in her lung and took samples for a biopsy. They also took samples of the fluid they took from her lung and will biopsy it as well. They drained TWO QUARTS of fluid from her lung. She went in for surgery around 7:30 and it lasted around two hours. Unfortunately, they did not have a room ready for her, so she spent hours and hours in the recovery room. Finally, around three o’clock this afternoon, she got moved into the Progressive Care Unit. They are monitoring her heart rate, because her EKG during the surgery went slightly wonky.
She’s alert, although very tired and in some pain. We’re not quite sure how long she’ll be in the hospital, but I’m sure we’ll find out tomorrow. They have decided to put off her masectomy until she’s recovered from this surgery. They felt it was too much for her to undergo two surgeries in one admission.
We’ll visit her tomorrow again.
My son is currently sitting outside looking like a stuffed mannequin with a bowl of candy in his lap. We’ve heard several screams or yells of startled kids and adults. I didn’t buy as much candy as I have in years past. When the candy is gone, the porch light goes off.
Well, I’m very tired and I think I’ll try to relax somewhat. I think this will prove difficult as my dog is going freakin’ nuts with all the damn trick or treaters coming up onto our porch. I’ll be glad when we can turn off the porch light!
I relented on the trick or treaters. I’ve had 6 so far, all adorable. I’m working on my scarf, which is due tomorrow, but maybe I’ll have it in the mail tomorrow, at least. It’s reversible cables, on large needles. It’s easy, (WYIF Sl1, K2, P3, (K1,P1) 4 times, P3, K3, sub (K1, P1) regularly, depending on how twisty (technical knitting term!)you want your cables to be, with (CB4, K1, P1 twice, K1, P1 twice off CN) and now you know how to do reversible cables too! It’s at 48" right now, so just 26" to go. I can do that tonight, I think.
Taters, wishing your MIL a quick and painless as possble recovery. rosie, glad you’re feeling better and good wishes to the baby in NC.
The trick-or-treaters have finished, and there are still a few peanut butter cups left!
Taters, I hope everything goes well for your MIL.
Rosie, are you feeling better yet?
I am hacked off at the hockey league. They have decided that instead of doing free audio only internet feeds, we will now have $7.95 per game webcasts. We do have radio broadcasts of away games - on an AM station that powers down at 6:00. I don’t mind it so much for me, because I can get the stupid radio station since Mr. SCL bought an antenna booster, but I am hacked off for the families of the players. Of course most of them are in Canada, so the internet feed was the only way they had to get the game. Now they’ll have to pay $8 a game - I really don’t think that is right. A bunch of us have already decided to get together on game nights and all chip in for the webcast, so it won’t cost so much for each of us.
Thanks for all the good wishes for grandbaby. I will update when I hear from my friend in the morning.
Great photos, rosie, hope you’re feeling better today. Ophie will be pedalling the vibe machine again today for those in need!
It was cold and frosty here first thing, we had to scrape the car windows for the first time in ages. I really didn’t want to get out of bed this morning, far too much wine yesterday for a school night…I blame 'im indoors and my friend Hazel who stayed over last night. They’re bad influences.
We had a great night out at the Rocky Horror Show, the guys dressed in their best frillies and lots of pics were taken by people in the pub across the road from the theatre, they’re just not used to the amount of dressing up that the show involves. One day, I’m going to the theatre for something properly serious where I don’t need fancy dress…but wouldn’t that be boring?
I’m off in search of yet another cup of tea to counteract the amount of wine that’s still sloshing around. Caffeine. That’s what I need.
Oh, is it the weekend yet?
Good Morning! I’m up and getting ready to go to Mass(It is All Saints Day), then a fun filled day of laundering, rent paying and dog parking. Whew! I need a nap already.
Snakes prayers and good thoughts headed out from south Jawja to Nawth Keerliner.
Taters glad the MIL came through ok.
rosie, glad you’re feeling better. Nice pics!
doggie you make me feel like such a heathen. I hadn’t even considered the idea of going to an All Saint’s Day service. Oh well, my church will celebrate the Feast of All Saint’s on Sunday and I’m lector. That should earn me some points. I liked the 'toon.
I had a bunch of trick or treaters last night. I don’t know how many. Then again, an amount of humanlets over three seems like a bunch. I do have little baby KitKats and Reese’s Cups leftover (YAY!) so that’s good.
LiLi go shopping today. The stores should be less crowded than on Friday.
I’ve never been pitted. That’s cause I’m nice, dammit!
This is true… augh! I must run to the store and get Mr. Lissar discount peanut butter cups!
After breakfast.
Continuing to pray for TMIL, and I’m glad you’re cheered up, rosie. Alistair’s dance [DEL]frightened[/DEL] cheered me up, too.
I’m going to Mass at noon, since it’s, well, at noon. Much better than at eight. I think I’ll call Mum and see if she’s available after Mass. I should do some housework and tidy my fridge. QD neglected to tidy my fridge yesterday. The $15000 Hallowe’een house was awesome, with an animatronic giant dragon, and witches, and laughing, dancing skeletons. It was fun. I’m sure there’ll be news pics up soon.
There was no cream in my coffee when I got to work. But it all worked out in the end–one of the guys with access to the Executive Kitchen brought me some cream. He’s now my hero. I could drink black coffee, but I definitely don’t want to.
But it all worked out in the end–one of the guys with access to the Executive Kitchen brought me some cream. He’s now my hero. I could drink black coffee, but I definitely don’t want to.
And … yeah. That’s about all I have today, which is mildly pathetic.
Hi, everyone. First, prayers to all recovering from surgeries/illness; I hope we get good reports on everybody!
Those were all cute Halloween greetings, so thanks for cheering me up.
I’m feeling very humbuggy this morning. We didn’t buy any candy and left the porch light off this year because Papa Tigs was feeling miserable after going to the doctor and getting his injured hand twisted this way and that, and I was just drained after our long weekend and just not interested in coping with the dogs barking their fool heads off every time kids came to the door. So what happened? Several kids ignored the dark house to stand there and knock anyway! And they were little enough we couldn’t chew them out for it, either. So we gave them money. They seemed happy enough with that, but jeez, don’t kids know the porch light code any more?
But, of course, the good part of all that is that I don’t have any candy leftovers to eat. Unless Papa Tigs brings me a bunch home from work, which I’m afraid he’ll do. They actually had trick-or-treating around the offices at the military hospital yesterday for the kids who are stuck therre with parents in long-term recovery from injuries, so there may well be a surfeit of candy. Hopefully he’ll spare me. But, alas, he knows my weaknesses.
Jahdra, that scarf is really cute. What size needles are you using? And what yarn did you use? I like the colors.
Mornin’!
Tough morning. Didn’t want to get up. Not that I ever do, but my body was being particularly adamant today. But I got up and am now at work per usual. Weather is still cooperating, even if it’s colder today than yesterday, but the lack of wind still makes it feel relatively comfortable.
I am, as we speak, about to attempt eating a seedless pomegranate, with only a plastic knife to attack it with. I do not anticipate this going well, but absent better cutlery, I’m having to make do.
[saw, saw, saw, saw, saw, saw…]
Well … that wasn’t so bad, but it has raised an important question for whoever genetically engineered this seedless pomegranate: What, exactly, did you imagine a pomegranate seed looked like? Was it perhaps longish and white? Like the stuff the pomegranate flesh surrounds? Like in this pomegranate? Yeah, I’d go back and check on that gene splicing there.
(Y’know, “seedless pomegranate” sounds like a Stephen Wright joke. “I bought a seedless pomegranate. It was empty.”)
Yes, good vibes for all who need them from me as well.
rosie, interesting bridal party colors. Coupla nonconformists in the family?
doggio pet tricker treaters would be really jake!
I figure I had about 125-30 kidlets last night. Really down from previous years but much easier to manage.
In between cooked some poke chops and spare guts and some faux “Hollow-daise” sauce. Appropriate for Halloween, no? Dinner was ready about 8:15 so I just shut the pordh and walk lights off.
gt, we did have a 7-month old cutie come to the door. Turns out her momma was one of Lil Lestat’s[sup]TM[/sup] former girlfriends. Don’t worry. Baby’s daddy was someone else.
I think we should start a petition thread for a pukey smiley. Who’s with me?
Tupug
There are thousands and thousands and thousands of little round rubber gasket thingys in the workshop today. I think they’re breeding. I swear it didn’t look like that many when I left yesterday. Perhaps little round rubber gasket thingys are the new tribble!
We have lots of cookies in the break room. Good ones too. Keebler Fudge Stripes[sup]TM[/sup] and some homemade really chunky chocolate chip cookies. We know not who the provider of cookies is cause he/she won’t fess up. Actually the fudge stripe cookies are “witches hats.” They’re turned upside down and have little Hershey’s Kisses[sup]TM[/sup] glued on to ‘em with black icing. They’re kinda jake lookin’.
The bride’s dress was lovely.
QD didn’t do the fridge, but did have an argument with Mr. Lissar about whether she ought to be allowed to tidy the backpack pile. It was tucked away tidily, but they weren’t organized and stacked properly. It was really funny.
Mr. Lissar: No. Don’t touch those.
Quasi-Daughter: Ooooh! (Frustrated noises) But I could just… they’d be so tidy…
Mr. Lissar: No. No touching. Sit down and eat your chips.
Quasi-Daughter (turning to me for support): But they’d be so much better!
Me: Look, no one can see them. They’re not visible. Sit down and eat your chips.
Quasi-Daughter: (sulks)
Good morning everyone; I’m very tired, but here at work. We were very surprised at how few trick or treaters we had last night. We usually get anywhere from 75 to 100. Last night we had 22. My poor son was so disappointed, because he really likes doing the whole scare the trick or treaters thing.
Well, I have a lot of work to catch up on. Sending good thoughts and well wishes to all who need them.
