It was a horse, it was an MMP

(I got the pj’s at Target. Yanno, if you wanna go get some cool monkey jammies like mine.)

Home, eating some leftover pig from Saturday’s tailgate. Nelly wet my bed again. Anyone want a pair of beagle slippers?

Congrats on the date, HM!

:waves at Flutterby:

No Target here :frowning:

I’m cozied up in my teddy bear pjs though, and very shortly I shall crash as I didn’t sleep until late last night.

Morning all!

So, I think I have figured out Nooner’s reasons for being so flirtatious in here, and it would seem they are far more altruistic than anyone could have imagined - he’s trying to redress the balance of sexual preference in Israel towards heterosexuals and stop the earthquakes - cite!

Okay, I got nuffin’! Bored at work, but busy (if that makes sense). Gotta run and actually do some stuff! Ciao for now!

Wow! Ya’ll sure are chatty! I’m going to have to find out if the Dope is blocked at work; I’m willing to bet it is.

Shadow, that was a great OP. I’ve been riding whenever I get the chance since I was a young 'un. Never had the place or the money to have one of my own, though.

I have tomorrow night off work for Tip-a-Snake, our annal fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network. The players put on tuxes and wait tables, and we buy them drinks and think up fun things for them to do. Leaving your chair can result in a “fine” to get it back. Don’t leave your purse or camera lying around. There is a silent auction with cool stuff. Last year there was a painting I really wanted but I couldn’t even afford the minimum bid; this year I saved my whole last paycheck. It will be just my luck there won’t be anything I want. It’s for a good cause and last year we raised about $60,000 between tickets, tips and the auction. That’s a nice chunk o’ change and helped buy and equip a neonatal ambulance/transport.

Had another “actual” tonight at work; the police dispatcher told me as I was finishing giving her the info on a hold up alarm that the cashier had just called in - she’d been robbed at gunpoint.

I’ll try to take some pictures tomorrow night - someone remind me to post them.

Later, ya’ll!

My car is entirely covered with snow!

::rapid topic shift::

I have snowman pajamas!

We’re supposed to get snow today and tomorrow. Arghhhhh.

GT

Good Tuesday morning all! I forgot to say YAY to Hockey Monkey on the love life - thinking positive thoughts for you!

Up and caffeinating; will be a bit late in today, but will stay a bit late to make up for it. Thankfully, that’s an option. I actually made my lunch this morning - a chicken and swiss cheese sandwich on whole wheat pita (well, I put all the stuff together for it, I’ll actually make it at work at lunch time :)). And I’ve got some fresh fruit. So here’s to healthy eatin’!

Hi

Busy

Later, 'gators!

Tip A Snake. HEE! Is it as much fun as cow tippin’? Yeah, I know, almost two pages of stuff to comment on and I pick that. It’s fun in my world.

Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. I get to go to the doctor and get stuff poked before goin’ to work this mornin’. I’m sure you’re all extremely jealous of that.

Other than that I got nuttin’.

Yays, boos, hugs, congrats etal where needed.

Later Y’all!

I’d just like to say a special Hooray for my grandparents. But first, an explanation. When we send out lunches we also send disposable plates and silverware plus serving utensils. It’s my grandparent’s ‘job’ to come to the shop and count out exactly what we need for the next day. Yesterday I left the shop before they were finished. This morning when I got here all of the dishes were done! That surely brightened my day!

And a surly thanks to the plow guy for actually doing his job. (Which he hasn’t in the past and we’ve all had to trudge through the snow.)

So anyways, it’s too early to call and tell them but hugs to PieGrandma and PieGrandpa!

No snow here, but maybe some ice(hockey tonight.

Ohboyohboyohboy! BioRosie is giving me a chance to show off what a fart smeller I really am…

The heart of the matter is most people do not understand vectors. A mathematical vector is something that has 2 components: magnitude and direction. A completely unrelated concept is the medical definition of vector, which is the mechanism of propagation of a communicable illness.

Speed and velocity are a prime example. Most people think they are the same thing, but are not. Velocity is a vector; it has a magnitude (speed), and it works in a specific direction, such as due north.

Acceleration is also a vector, and is the time rate of change of velocity. There’s not an easy general idea of the scalar part, but most people have heard of g related to gravity, and that’s an example of a specific magnitude number.

Most people think of acceleration as speeding up in a straight line. It’s a valid concept, but not the complete picture. That case represents a change in speed over time. Where people get lost is when you have the case of the direction changing.

Imagine yourself sitting on the coolest merry-go-round in the world. You can get it spinning fast enough that you really have to hang on to keep from flying off, and we ignore gravity for this example. The merry-go-round is spinning at a constant 20 revolutions per minute, let’s say.

One of Newton’s Laws (I forget which one of the 3) says that in the absence of net forces (force is mass X acceleration), an object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion in a straight line. Here you are on the merry-go-round, hanging in for dear life to keep you from flying off. Why is this happening (besides being one of the most fun sensations a kid can have)?

The motion is constant, right? A force is pulling on your back, trying to yank you off the ride, right?

Not so fast. Motion is not constant, because you are accelerating. The scalar value of your velocity may well be constant, but you’re moving in a circle, meaning you are accelerating because the direction is constantly changing. Your body has mass, and mass X acceleration is force, which you feel in hour hands.

This is centripetal force, keeping you spinning around the merry-go-round’s axle. What happens if centripetal force disappears? You fly off, in a straight line, tangential to the circle you were moving in. If there was also a centrifugal force, your motion path would not be tangential, nor straight.

Have I confused you yet? Remember, you asked for it.

Caffeine and brekkie are consumed, and I am firmly ensconced [del]in my throne[/del] at my desk.

VWife has a wunnnerful weekend planned for me. I get to paint the bathroom…

<ignores last post as is too early here to even think of physics>
Lots of snow this morning. I have made an executive decision and am not going to the library today. I will do 3 FT days over my spring break. I cannot stand this going in for little bits of time (but seriously have not that much time to give to this). I plan on shoveling snow this morning (I actually like to do it–it’s great exercise and I like being outdoors).
Didn’t read before I posted, so no idea what’s going on here today.

VBob: Huh?

I hate physics.

Mornin’ everyone! Or whatever time o’day it is for ya.

Hugs and yays and boos and tissues and chocolate for anyone who needs them.

Gotta go work. Blech.

Mornin’ all.

VBob I appreciate your attempt to educate, alas, I was never good at that stuff. I’m trying to grasp it. Maybe eventually.

(((Taters)))

I’m amazed that no one has mentioned a nickname for Flutterby yet. Does no one have an idea???

adds herself to the chourus, “Is it Friday yet?”

Hockey your night sounds similar to mine–I went home, put on my lavender starry pjs and had eggs and toast for dinner.

That’s all I can rememeber right now; I’m sure I’m forgetting something.

So what is it that you do at the library? I know your going for a library science degree, do you have a specialization? (Does a master’s in English count the same as a MLS do you know? Trying to see what my options are after gradjiation in December. By then I’ll have been working in Reference and “Oh My God Don’t Touch The Valuable Manuscripts and Rare Books You Peons!” Collections for a year and a half, so that should count for something?)

Drat. Flutterby has it right. Her memory is better than mine.
rosie, I had that version of TLM on video when I was about ten. It was very good.
Oscar Wilde did some weird stuff, but has anyone else read HCA’s Little Red Shoes? Shudder.

Flutterby could be buttah:smiley:

Morning, all. After many lovely, LOVELY hours of sleep, I am feeling semi-human this morning. I shall presumably feel fully human after sufficient caffeine is ingested. Caffeine, the nectar of the gods.

Taters, don’t blame the defense attorney for objecting. It’s her job; the more she can keep opposing counsel off-balance and unable to get a good flow in their examination of witnesses, the better chance she has of causing them to not do as good a job. Distracting the prosecution is a time-honored defense tactic – because it works. In other words, she’s just doing her job. Were I on trial, I’d rather have my attorney only having 25% of their objections sustained than letting that 25% of objectionable stuff stand.

Which is one reason I’d never get on a jury; I understand the games attorneys play in trials too well, not to mention I’ve learned to evaluate the credibility of witnesses far more than your average joe, by listening to what they don’t say. A courtroom is a (low) form of theater; if you look at it that way, it helps you appreciate what goes on a lot better!

If I can ask a purely procedural question: Are jurors in your venue allowed to take notes in court? I know in some areas now they area, but it really varies by venue. I’d hate being on a jury, especially for such a long trial, and having to remember anything; I would prefer to take notes of important points. Of course, for some people having paper to doodle on might distract from listening, so I can appreciate both sides. What I’d really like, were I on a jury, would be to have my knitting – keeping my hands busy helps me listen better. Really.

Anyway, back to sneezing. There’s something set me off this morning; I’ve just sneezed about 20 times, and it’s not letting up. So I’ll be back when I can go more than 10 seconds without sneezing!
