You are dumber than a flock of shitbirds.
Why, because I don’t happen to think a cold is something to get all bent out of shape over? Well, it isn’t. So you can cordially kiss my ass, douchebag.
I deal with the public in my job but I do not have the option to call out sick everytime I have a cold, as much as I would like to. If I take more than 2 or 3 days a year the higher ups assume that I am faking (not just me, all of us). Then I have to jump through hoops everytime I call out or get written up. That includes when my wife is too sick to take care of the kids, when my kids are too sick to go to school. I have to save them in case I need them for something big. You would think that since I carry a gun and drive around for 11 hours a night they would want me to be at my best but I guess they don’t care.
Unfortunately there are far too many people in the world who take advantage of workplaces that don’t enforce a doctor’s note-for-calling-in-sick policy. Shit, I’ve seen people call off sick and then come in to pick up their paycheck (not looking the least bit sick either). :dubious:
That made me laugh and laugh, thank you.
Although I completely agree that too many people overmedicate and don’t allow their immune systems to build, you are (once again) coming in with the personality of a buzzsaw to make a point. And yes, I know it’s the Pit.
Since you enjoy Google, you might want to use it to look up “autoimmune diseases.” Peruse the many diseases where the body fails to assist patients with recovery. Add to that a host of other disorders that don’t fall into that category yet are affected by colds even though, as you so kindly have pointed out, it isn’t the bubonic plague.
Working in a job where you have constant contact with the public while you’re suffering with a cold, flu, etc is a bad idea. From the sound of it, her job is pretty good about scheduling and working with their employees so I dare say calling in sick isn’t going to cause her to lose her job. Does it put the manager in a bind? Yes, but that’s not the OP’s daughter’s responsibility. It’s nice that she wants to be responsible, but there are other kinds of responsibility.
Antibacterial liquid agents aren’t really going to help with a cold since it is usually viral, and those products kill bacteria (hence the name) not viruses.
The problem with customer service jobs is not the assholes, it’s the fact that you can’t deal with them without getting fired. There are people in the world who will take advantage of the fact that you can’t speak to them the way they should be spoken to in order to treat you like shit they found stuck to their shoes. If you don’t want to get fired, you just stand there and absorb it.
That’s enough to make a lot of people cry, if they value their grocery money.
Gee, I was completely unaware of either of these things, thanks!
That out of the way, answer me a question, if you will: who’s responsible for my health; me or everyone else?
Now you’re just being ridiculous. Nobody said you (or anyone else) is responsible for anyone else’s health.
It’s this little thing called common courtesy that apparently (by all evidence I’ve read here) you’re unaware of.
Let me break it down for you since your straw man argument encompasses a lot.
Nobody is expecting Mr Q.E.D. to be nursemaid to people far and wide who are ill. No you’re not responsible for their illnesses nor their recovery. What you are responsible for is yourself. If you’re sick, it is the right thing to do to stay home and get yourself better. If you have a job where you are constantly dealing with the public, it’s even more important.
If it means you lose your job, then obviously don’t stay home. In the situation the OP describes it hardly seems the case that the employee would. Of course the man had no right to be such an asshole to the girl, but it isn’t her responsibility to cover the shift. That’s what management is for.
With more and more Americans taking care of ailing relatives (especially the elderly), you never know what situation your co-workers have at home. A cold (not the bubonic plague!) may seem like nothing to you or to me, but a co-worker can take that home to someone whose immune system is wiped out and their fight will be much greater.
But my co-worker can bring home germs from anywhere! Yes, that’s right. It isn’t my fault! Also, right. Most people don’t have a sick person at home with them! Right again! But, most people won’t lose their jobs if they take a sick day when they’re sick.
Now, feel free to set up as many straw men as needed. I can’t believe you’re really taking the side that people shouldn’t stay home when they are sick. Is that really what you believe, or are you just trying not to back down from your original buzzsaw comments?
I dunno. I’ve read enough moonbat opinions on American health care that sure seem to say we shouldn’t be allowed to make our own choices on our health.
Put those trans-fats down!
 Now who’s building strawmen? My position is that if someone is sick but wants (or has) to go to work instead of staying home, it’s jut not that big a deal. The world isn’t going to end because someone came to work with a cold. OTOH, I’m certainly not saying that they shouldn’t stay home, if that’s what they feel is best. I never suggested otherwise.
That’s going to happen anyway. It’s an unavoidable consequence of not living cooped up indoors 24/7. If you have someone like that at home, you can and absolutely should take whatever precautions you need to insure their health, but don’t count on the world sanitizing itself for you, because it won’t.
Your daughter is very responsible,LifeOnWry, and i respect that. The company i work at, in another department, there are a lot of teenagers (boys and girls) that i wish would follow your girl’s example.
Like some said, you shouldn’t let people’s comments get you personally, but i know (from experience in retail) that there are a few instances where it’s either tears or IMGONNABREAKYERFACE!! reactions.
As for showing up sick, it is a minor annoyance if you catch a cold from a coworker. It’s fucking ridiculous when you catch flu/pneumonia/gastro from one that coughs, sneezes and spits all over everything and in everyone’s face without bothering to cover their mouth. The next two days seven employees (out of 15) had to miss work!
Make us proud of your dedication. Don’t let anyone stop you in even more trying circumstances.
