Italian TV

Just wondering what everyone else out there makes of italian prime-time TV. Programs like “Buona Domenica”, “Striscia La Notizia” and “Passaparola”. These are programs that are on primetime, but feature seriously sexy women dancing in very little. As a liberal, it doesn’t bother me, and I wouldn’t object to my kids watching it either. Just wondering if anyone else has seen these programs (or others like them) and what they thought.

PS - This may be the wrong forum…

Lucky you’re not a conservative eh? As everyone knows, conservatives dislike scantily clad women.

No - I meant that Conservatives may object to scantily clad women on at a time when kids are usually watching TV. That’s all…

All I remember about Italian TV when I was there were constant phone sex advertisements – they would be shown in several-hour blocs all evening long, and the women were all naked and occasionally masturbting.

It was quite interesting to watch – but I have no idea why after that anyone would actually pony up the lire to call. Why buy the cow, etc.?

The last time I was in Denmark, there was this Italian television show called, “Tutti Fruiti.”

It was essentially Jeopardy crossed with strip poker.

Typically a contestant giving the correct answer could direct one of the distinctly well proportioned models in the dance line to remove an article of apparel. Things often got a little kinky when the contestants would begin disrobing too.

Most of all, it was just plain weird.

That’s my point exactly ** Zenster ** - It’s the weirdness of it all. This TV is so alien to what we have on terrestrial TV in Ireland, that I boggle at the antics of the prime time TV host(esses) in Italy.

My wife is Italian and we send a large amount of time in Italy with her family and friends. After luch, it is not unusual for us all to sit down and watch one of these “quizzes”. Just plain odd. Not a single comment on the great looking women wobbling their bits at the camera - everyone just guessing the answers - fucking surreal…

I found them rather surreal also.

I just read where the TV/media in Italy are trying to ‘clean up’ the shows, less scantily clad women.

The last year I was in Italy they had a show, a contest for women to audition for a chance to be on these shows, it incleded women from mostly Italy but several from the rest of Europe and at least one American.

The American didn’t make it to the final rounds, her comments about how degrading to women the shows were after she was cut were funny.

Oh, I also noticed on italian TV, they had no problem with showing sex or naked to near-naked women or porn after midnight on the weekends. On the news they would actually show people who had died, ie: killed in a drive by or a car wreck or the bodies being recovered after the mud-slides in '98 or '99.

They would not show these things on american TV. American TV will show violence, guns, murder, and mayhem but italian TV would not.

** Catnoe ** - There actually is an American “lady” (and I use the term loosely) on one of these shows - I think it’s Passaparola - I kind of “Who wants to be a naked Millionaire”… Still the overwhelming majority of these women are from Italy.

However, I don’t agree with the point about explotation (and from the contaxt, I’d say that you don’t either) - these women are the female equivalent of the “Calciatori” - footballers - who are idolized. Every woman wants to be one (my wife excepted) and every man wants to be with one…
