MsWas actually thinks that it’s far more likely that you project onto MsWas, than that MsWas projects onto you.
Here ya go. It can be tough to make out who have their hands up, but it’s Huckabee, Tancredo, and Brownback.
And I was surprised at how difficult it was to find the actual clip. Poor google-fu, I have.
Hmm. Well, ‘I don’t believe in Evolution’, is consonant with ‘I don’t know.’, at least that’s what the atheists keep telling me about God. Lack of belief isn’t the same as disbelief. When I heard him talking about it, that seemed to be sort of how he was phrasing it.
In the examples I found? Issues with schools/school boards trying to teach ID or compromise the teaching of evolution, e.g. by adding “evolution is just a theory” stickers to text books.
While that’s not how I read his follow-up explanations (this is neither the time nor place for that debate, besides which I have no inclination to pursue it), I do want to point out that you just moved the goalposts.
Just sayin’, is all…
Lack of belief OR disbelief in evolution at this point is the same as saying “I’m ignorant, a liar or in utter denial of reality.” Not “I don’t know”. And “I don’t know” is agnosticism, not atheism.
Believing in God is silly; not believing in evolution is more than just silly. It’s up there with not believing in gravity, thus the jokes about “intelligent falling”.
Well, I was being tongue in cheek.
I believe the same to be true of atheists. God clearly exists, so they must be ignorant. ;p
Not believing in God, I’ll admit is not so much silly as tragic. ;p Luckily for me, I’m ahead of you both. I believe in God and Evolution.
Well, you are wrong. There’s an immense amount of evidence for evolution; zero for God. Unless, of course, you’d like to present some ? Thought not.
You are simply trying to pretend religion is the equal of science again, instead of baseless, self indulgent garbage.
No, you are behind me. Belief in God is unfounded, unhealthy, and generally malignant. And that Christian “Oh, I’m so sorry for you because you don’t believe in God” garbage is one of it’s more disgusting and dishonest habits.
You are not lucky for believing in God; you are defective.
Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4th, 1826 exactly 50 years after the Declaration of Independence that they crafted. Accept that one? Thought not.
Heh, you have no respect for anyone who believes differently than you. You’re a bigot accept it and be free. It’s not a competition between religion and science. One can have faith in God and trust in science all at the same time.
If your pettiness isn’t fodder for humor then what is?
I’m not the one spending most of my days hating something I don’t believe in. Now who’s defective?
Am I interpreting your intent correctly? This is like the most woo-woo argument for the existence of God (apparently the magical architect of meaningless coincidences) I’ve ever seen.
Of course, you don’t believe in Divine Providence. Really the issue is that people have no respect for religious belief at all, and that it’s not socially acceptable on the Dope to express a belief in Divine Providence without being subject to ridicule. That’s the reality around here. Why people pretend to respect the beliefs of others at this point is beyond me. There is no respect. Either there is such a thing as divine providence, in which case that evidence is justified, or there is no such thing as divine providence, in which case it’s woo woo. This nation was built on the notion of divine providence.
Once, in my first year of college, just as I was about to type the LaTeX code to produce a “turnstile” symbol, my iTunes played the line “In a turnstile, backwards we fly” from Beck’s “Little One”. The evidence for God is everywhere!
Absolutely, now you’re getting it.
Of course not. How would that count as evidence of God ? Do you have any ACTUAL evidence ?
I have respect for plenty of people who disagree with me, but not when their beliefs are utter foolishness. And disrespect for people who disagree with you isn’t bigotry anyway; you are just doing the Christian victim whine again.
Only by carefully mentally compartmentalizing them and not thinking about how they contradict each other. Science and religion are by nature enemies. Certainly, being religious will generally hamper one at science.
You. I don’t hate God; I hate religion. And being a Christian, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you hate most everything; hate is what it’s all about. hate for other religions, hate for the world, hate for oneself.
It’s not like there are any good ones.
And slavery and genocide as well. We’ve advanced past those things, mostly.
It’s easy to poke fun at some Americans for their belief in creationism (and no one despises ‘intelligent design’ more than I do), but if we extend our scorn to people with anti-scientific attitudes in general, you might find that America is nothing special. Let’s include:
- Astrology
- Ghosts
- Homeopathy
- Gaia, Goddesses, and other ‘pop’ religions
- ‘Scientific’ Marxism
- I Ching
- Feng Shui
- ‘Chi’
- Cryotozoology
- CryptoArchaeology
- Moon Hoax theories
- Clairvoyance and other psychic powers
- ‘Healing Stones’, crystals, and faith healing
- Enviro-hysteria (trying to stop the Cassini mission, for example)
And the list goes on. The world is full of anti-scientific beliefs. And as far as church and school goes, the U.S. is better than most countries. Here in enlightened Canada, there is an entire public school system just for Catholics, paid for with tax dollars. You don’t see that in the United States.
More evidence of divine providence.
Don’t tell Isaac Newton.
I’m not a Christian. I’m what is known as a ‘vague Deist’. ;p
That.
Right there.
That’s why you are so frequently pitted, and garner so much dislike.
Can’t you see how someone could take that a deeply personal insult? It would be like someone saying that your Aspergers is a made up disease of the month for loser who don’t want to deal with reality.
I’m not telling you you’re wrong, or right. Hell, I tend to agree with you in some regards on this one… but you’re “all or nothing” approach does nothing but gain you hate and make the whole cause you believe in look bad.
You’ve become the equivalent of the Athiest Inquisition, spreading hatred and pain wherever you go in order to root out what is, in large part, harmless.
Yeah, and how many text books have that sticker? None. That’s because, like I said, it’s a vocal minority pushing this. Most people really don’t care enough to make it an issue, even if they say to a pollster that they want ID/creationism taught in school.
